Bobbi Brown’s Gel Eyeliner is $19 and has a soft, mousse-like consistency. At the moment, you have your choice of 17 different colors, which generally fall into two categories: Inks and Shimmer Inks (though the inappropriately named Violet Ink looks like it belongs to the Shimmer family). It is this swatcher’s humble opinion that the Shimmers are much more exciting (click the pictures to see them at full size and you’ll see what I mean).
Several of the dark browns do look similar to one another.
- Mahogany Ink is a bit lighter and warmer than Sepia Ink.
- Granite Ink and Espresso Ink are similar, but the Espresso is a touch more brown than grey.
- Cocoa Mauve is very similar to Black Plum, but the Cocoa Mauve is a bit lighter and more chocolatey (in addition to being limited edition). Cocoa Mauve and Black Plum both have a touch of purple that Sepia Ink lacks.
- Bronze Shimmer Ink looked gold to me, and the Indigo Ink is so dark blue it’s almost black.
Could I tell the difference between these when used as an eyeliner? That’s a real toss-up.
Now I’m sorry to be a tease, but the Black Mauve Shimmer Ink liner is quite possibly the best color Bobbi has created… and it doesn’t appear in these photos. The Bobbi Brown counter had grouped all the new Mauve items together in a separate display, effectively hiding that last eyeliner. Here’s a look at that collection.
