MAC Red She Said

Red She Said is MAC’s vampy, 40s glamour holiday collection, though I’m not sure you’d get that from looking at swatches alone.

Everything is limited edition unless otherwise noted. The collection includes:

  • 5 lipsticks (Crazee is a Frost; “Red” She Said is an Amplified Creme; the rest are Lustres. Also, Pomposity is a repromote; the others are new shades.) – $14 US / $16.50 Canada
  • 5 Dazzleglass lipglosses (Miss Dynamite is a new shade, the others are repromotes from the last Dazzleglass release) – $17.50 US / $21 Canada
  • 6 Mineralize Eyeshadow Trios – $17.50 US / $21 Canada
  • 2 Fluidlines (Blacktrack is permanent; Silverstroke is limited edition) – $15 US / $18 Canada
  • Fibre Rich Lash Mascara (permanent) – $12 US / $14 Canada
  • 3 mechanical brow pencils (from the permanent line; not swatched) – $14.50 US / $17.50 Canada
  • 2 Beauty Powder Blushes – $18 US / $22 Canada
  • 2 nail polishes (Rougemarie is permanent; Beiged Bliss is limited edition) – $11 US / $13 Canada

I’ll be honest, I really didn’t like the Mineralize Eyeshadow Trios. They were incredibly crumbly in the pot — so messy I wouldn’t advise applying over a carpeted floor. The payoff was weak; the fallout was extreme.

Now, in full disclosure, I was swatching with Q-tips, which probably aren’t as gentle as a brush would be. I also know that somewhere, a makeup artist is grinding her teeth, saying “well of course glitter’s not going to stick if you don’t apply it over a base.” But do I really have to use a second product to make these usable?

The Beauty Powder Blushes were unexpectedly pigmented (though you could definitely apply them with a lighter hand than I did here). They do have some sparkle to them, but I don’t think you’ll find it distracting.

    >I could not agree with you more about the trios! I find MAC’s mineralize line to be generally weak though – little color payoff and terrible textures. I was as disappointed with the duos myself.

So glad you swatched the lipsticks! Seeing Soft Pause swatched just gives me more reason to want it! :D

    >I had the same reaction! I as soon as I swatched it, I thought “oooh…”

    Swatching is dangerous.
