NARS Holiday 2008

We all want a little flash and dazzle for the holidays, and makeup companies are happy to oblige. Everyone from Bobbi to MAC to Dior is bringing out the bling — eyeshadows, eyeliners, highlighters, blush, you name it. (Just don’t wear them all together.) I’d say the brands vary in the success of their offerings.

I’m a fan of subtle sparkle, like the kind in Chanel’s Smoky eyeshadow quad. Unfortunately, NARS’ two holiday eyeshadow singles, Night Life (silver) and Silent Night (gold) have large gauge glitter suitable for a really flashy night out. These two eyeshadow singles are $22, and are new additions to the permanent line.

As a light NARS user, my impression of the brand has always been that it is insanely pigmented — this is definitely true of Super Orgasm blush. I have heard that applying with a duo-fiber (or “skunk”) brush can both keep you from applying too heavily, AND prevent you from transferring gold glitter flakes to your cheeks. Like all NARS blushes, this one is $25.

Jolie Poupee (French for “pretty doll,” $32), the new eyeshadow duo, is half matte, half alive. The second shade is a blue-purple that seems to glow in sunlight. NARS lipglosses and lipsticks are both $24, and all NARS tube glosses have a doe’s foot applicator.

    >I *HEART* NARS!

The matte side of Jolie Poupee is just as pretty the shimmery side imo… I love love love that duo.

I kinda like the chunky glitter in Super Orgasm if I have foundation on. It just gives that festivity!

    >Hi Doll! Yup, the skunk brush really helps with Nars.

Isn’t it rare now days that a line is so committed to pigment. I think it is great.
