Chantecaille Bengals Palette

Chantecaille's holiday offering this year was the Bengali Collection, a charitable follow-up to their Protected Paradise palettes. 5% of the palette's $117 pricetag goes to an organization called TRAFFIC, whose mission is "to ensure that trade in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation of nature."

The Bengali palette contains four

MAC Dame Edna

Hello, Possums!

While Dame Edna Everage is a household name in the U.K. and Australia, I'm afraid it might not be too familiar to the American audience. Dame Edna is an Australian comedy act — a hilariously kooky, delightfully self-confident old woman, who can slyly make fun of people and get away with it on account of her age

Chanel Spring 2009

Chanel Spring has already arrived at many counters, and the beautiful, bohemian/gypsy-inspired collection is already turning a lot of heads. If you're shopping online, it's on all the major department store websites (and Chanel's, of course), but not grouped as a new collection. Look for each item by category instead.

ArmaniSilk Lipstick, Part 3

"Sheer" is a relative term when you're describing ArmaniSilk lipsticks — though today's swatches include a lot of pretty, demure pinks, the coverage and pigmentation can be surprising (look out for 21!).

25 is a very cool pink (it contains blue sparkles), 22 reminds me of Chanel Naive, and 30 is a sparkle-heavy ruby.

ArmaniSilk Lipstick, Part 2

Continuing through the multi-hued (and many finishes of) ArmaniSilk lipsticks, it certainly doesn't feel like they've left any color families out. Pinks, reds, browns, nudes, and corals are all represented, so whether you're warm, cool, sheer, or full-coverage, this line probably has a shade for you. ArmaniSilk fans tell me these lipsticks are long-wearing and feel great on the lips.

Stila Lip Rouge

Ever since I swatched MAC's limited edition Not So Shy!, I've been a little obsessed with lip stains. I love the idea of doing my lips very carefully just once in the morning, and then blithely applying chapstick for the rest of the day without needing a mirror.

Stila's Lip Rouges are felt-tipped lip

ArmaniSilk Lipstick, Part 1

Some time ago, I received a request for Armani lipsticks — I swatched the Sheers and the Shines, and I've finally completed the ArmaniSilks (there are a lot of them!).

I was really surprised by how many different finishes fall under the ArmaniSilk umbrella — sheer, full-coverage, creme, sparkly, shimmery... they're very diverse. Those that love them cite

Chantecaille Lip Chics

Without much fanfare — without any fanfare at all, actually — Chantecaille quietly created five more of their sheer, glossy Lip Chic lipsticks. One day there were suddenly 9 of the shiny, black-metal tubes on the counter.

The general consensus from those that love them is that the Lip Chics are wonderfully moisturizing, with a "heavy jelly" or "heavy

Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencils

Laura Mercier must like eyeliner as much as I do (she sells five different kinds). We've already looked at her cake and caviar liners, pressed pans of pigment you apply with a brush — and I keep hinting at how much I like her kohl pencils.

Laura has two kinds of pencil eyeliners (both $19). I meant

Chanel Tweed Blush

In the not-too-distant past, Chanel made a blush with a quilted pattern, called Irreelle. These were much less popular than the circular, domed Joues Contraste (because the Irreelles were less pigmented, and tended to harden over time, I've heard). So Chanel discontinued the Irreelles and released a new nod to their sartorial history: the Tweed Blush (Les Tissages de

Stila Eyeshadow, Part 1

For those of you with fond memories of the SATs, Kitten:Stila::Orgasm:NARS. (For those of you who didn't take them, Kitten is to Stila what Orgasm is to NARS — the product that each brand is best known for.)

I resisted Stila eyeshadows for a long time, because its flagship eyeshadow didn't appeal to me. I also thought that Kitten

The Drugstore Cowgirl: Pure Skin Care Black Rice

Maybe a year ago, Walgreens introduced half a dozen exotic European skincare brands (Art Deco, Spa Aquatique, La Fleur Organique, Institut Arnaud, Oli, Skincode, Red Water). At the time, this seemed like a bad idea: I'd never heard of any of these companies, and I don't crave brands I know nothing about (especially when the prices are at

Cargo Eyeshadow

I'd never investigated Cargo eyeshadow because my Sephora doesn't have testers for the singles or duos. But ever since swatching the Essential Eye Palettes, I've been bitten by the Cargo bug.

Cargo single eyeshadows are $16 ($18.50 CDN), and their duos are $20 ($23 CDN), but they also make a pack of carded, single-use samples ($28
