I know you guys are going to be disappointed that today’s post isn’t accompanied by swatches, but I stumbled upon a drugstore product so stop-the-presses amazing, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about it.
Prestige Waterproof Eyeliners, found in CVS, Ulta, and some Walgreens (though the line is being discontinued there) are as good a quality pencil liner as any I normally chatter about.
I’d heard that Granite was a close imitation of MAC’s limited edition but greatly beloved Wolf Pearlglide liner, so I bought it and a second shade, Charcoal Brown. Reader, I am obsessed. These pencils are at the Clinique Creamshaper, UD 24/7 level — and they cost $3-4. They’re wonderfully soft, easy-to-use, and budge-proof (disclosure: I don’t put liner on my waterline). They’re also sparkle-free, if that was keeping you from buying any of the aforementioned pencils.
Charcoal Brown is VERY dark brown — nearly black. I think I trust the swatches on Prestige’s incredibly annoying and flash-driven website to accurately represent the other shades. (If you do visit, be warned that the first page has techno music that you cannot disable. Turn down your speakers.)
One final note: Prestige makes 8 kinds of pencils — “Classic” eyeliner, waterproof eyeliner, mechanical waterproof eyeliner, soft blend kohl eyeliner, “Classic” lipliner, waterproof lipliner, mechanical waterproof lipliner, and Light Shine Sheer [Lip] Pencils. Not only do these look like one another (Waterproof eye and lip look the same, the mechanical eye and lip pencils look the same…), but they’re mixed together in the display. Read your pencil carefully before buying.
