As far as drugstore makeup goes, NYX is a pretty well loved. They have a large, diverse product line with kind of an “underground” reputation (the MAC of drugstore makeup, perhaps?). The only catch is that they’re difficult to find in-store. You might find part of their collection at Ulta or a grocery store, but you might also find a large cache of their products in a random clothing store. Most folks buy online, from NYX’s website, CherryCulture.com, or NonpareilBoutique.com
NYX’s most famous eyeshadows are their singles, 160 colors in $5 squarish pots. There are only 18 shades of the Ultimate Pearl Shadows, which might be considered NYX’s premium shadows. They come in larger, round pots. They’re $6.50 each and have a satin/pearl/generally low shimmer finish. They’re all very soft; not chalky at all.
