TFMA: Shaping Your Nails

This is a tip I actually picked up while eavesdropping on a Twitter conversation. One... twitterer... was complimenting another on her perfectly rounded nail shape. The one with the perfect nails laughed, and said, "Really? I just clip them into a a triangle, then file them round."

A flashbulb went off for me.  I have been just-clipping my nails for

MAC Blush: Mocha, Plum Foolery, Fever, Honor, Strada, and Blushbaby

MAC, blush, swatches, Mocha, Plum Foolery, Fever

Well, this should be the last of the MAC blushes. Tomorrow I'll do a roundup post for easy reference.

Who knew Mocha was so gorgeous. I'd never even looked at it on account of its name, but it's not "mocha" at all — it's a really pretty pink. (NYX also has a not-brown blush called Mocha, but they're not

MAC Blush: Trace Gold, Sunbasque, Gingerly, Cantaloupe, Raizin

MAC, blush, swatches, Trace Gold, Sunbasque, Gingerly, Cantaloupe, Raizin

Don't worry, readers — we'll be wrapping up this blush story this week; next week we'll get back to collections.  Meanwhile, the peach-love continues.

Trace Gold is a very shimmery, very gold, peach-gold. One of my favorite MAC artists (we'll call him Frodo) calls it a topical shimmer — to add anywhere. Sunbasque is a rosier shimmery peach-gold. Gingerly is

Improvements in Action!

I've been reading your comments and suggestions for site improvements — great ideas, guys, keep 'em coming.

We've already started putting some of those ideas into action:

  • Mr. Salt has been working around the clock to bring back browsing by brand and by product type. In the top navigation, instead of "Swatches" you'll see two new tabs: "Brand" and

MAC Blush: Tenderling, Margin, Coppertone, and Sweet as Cocoa

MAC, blush, swatches, Tenderling, Margin, Coppertone, Sweet as Cocoa

We're still working our way through MAC's permanent (and pro) blush line: today's shades are peachy. Tenderling is the pale-girl classic. It's a matte, pale pinky-peach, beloved by almost everyone N-20 and lighter. I will say that I tried Tenderling on (in a MAC store), and maybe it was the weird lighting, I couldn't even tell I was wearing blush.

MAC Blush: Cubic, Buff, Prism, Peachtwist, House Wine

MAC, blush, swatches, Cubic, Buff, Prism, Peachtwist, House Wine

I already know what you're going to say about today's swatches (because I thought the same thing myself): "I had no idea those colors were so similar!"

I've heard Cubic recommended as a contouring blush, and I honestly had no idea it was so peachy. Buff is probably my "other" favorite MAC blush (I also mentioned Springsheen earlier

MAC Blush: Coygirl, Breath of Plum, Flirt & Tease, Loverush, Dirty Plum

MAC, blush, swatches, Coygirl, Breath of Plum, Flirt and Tease, Loverush, Dirty Plum

We're just about halfway through MAC's permanent and pro blushes now. Coygirl is a cool, matte, plummy pink. Breath of Plum is a matte pinky plum. Flirt & Tease is a high shimmer rose-plum-brown. Loverush is like cherry wood, or maybe rum raisin. Dirty Plum is really purple.

MAC's potted blushes are $18.50; the pans are $15.50. To buy

MAC Blush: Pinch O’ Peach, Dame, Desert Rose, Breezy, Rhubarb

MAC, blush, Pinch O

Swatching is so educational. I had no idea Pinch O' Peach and Dame were so similar in color.

Pinch O' Peach doesn't have nearly enough peach in it. It's pink — and looked almost plummy on my cheeks. It's slightly cooler than Dame. Pinch O' Peach is also matte; Dame has tiny, subtle blue sparkles. Dame is not too pigmented; it's

MAC Blush: Well Dressed, Pink Swoon, Dollymix, Full Fuchsia, Azalea

MAC, blush, swatches, Well Dressed, Pink Swoon, Dollymix, Full Fuchsia, Azalea

Today's blushes are all about being pretty in pink. Well Dressed is pale and cool (and slightly mauvey). Pink Swoon is just slightly warmer... but still cool. Well Dressed has a bit of a sheen to it; Pink Swoon is matte.

Dollymix is a high sheen, medium, "satin" pink (I call it that because I picture swishy dresses). Full Fuchsia
