80s glam collection Riveting arrived at counters late last week, and for the most part, it was not my cup of tea.
Very interestingly, Riveting “brings back” two pro blushes ($18.50): Full Fuchsia and Dirty Plum. In their original pro releases, Full Fuchsia was a Frost and Dirty Plum was a Matte. Now they’re both Satins (Dun dun DUN!)Â and they both seem to have a few (sparse) sparkles in them.
The four lipsticks in the collection ($14) are white-silver Metal Maven (Frost), purple-grey Riveting (Glaze), the repromoted Bubbles (a pearlescent white-pink Glaze last seen in Sugarsweet), and permanent-to-pro shade Show Orchid (Amplified Creme). It was a low-sun weekend, so I hope you’ll forgive my neglecting the repromoted shades.

The glosses were more interesting than I expected. Rock Out is a ton of silver sparkle. True Babe is a lipgloss to match Show Orchid.
My favorite part of the collection, however, is the matte nail polishes ($12). Some have said that MAC is late to jump on the matte polish bandwagon… I have to say that I haven’t liked matte nail polishes before these.
Studded is a matte silver. I was considering buying Orly’s Iron Butterfly (more charcoal/gunmetal)… but crossed it off my list I saw Studded. Wham, Bam, Glam, is an endlessly sexy brown-grey (a la Chanel Particuliere). Not swatched here is Black Enough?, a matte black. I don’t think the tape swatches do these shades justice, so more on this in a minute.
