NARS Spring 2010

NARS, Spring, 2010, promoNARS Spring — already making an appearance on the red carpet — has finally arrived at my counter. And the theme is… color. Wow. Does it all go together?

There are several new items in this collection: Kuala Lumpur ($32) eyeshadow duo, in sheeny gold-pink and purple-brown with a few gold sparkles. There’s D. Gorgeous, a matte ash-lilac eyeshadow single ($22). There’s also a cream eyeshadow duo, Camargue ($32), a shimmery, springy, yellowy moss green and a yellow brown with blue and green sparkles.

There’s a new glitter eye pencil, a bright cerulean with silver sparkles called Bains Douches ($24). The collection also repromotes Nabucco, one of NARS’ three Eyeliner Stylo liquid “pen” liners. These came out fairly recently (in black, brown, and blue; $27 each). The tip is quite fine, and — damn — Nabucco is REALLY permanent. I had a lot of trouble taking it off.

There’s also been a lot of buzz over the new nail polish, Purple Rain ($16). Somehow, the shade just doesn’t excite me. It reminds me of other dark purples (Fingerpaints Icy Iris, OPI Visions of Sugarplums) — am I a philistine?

The collection repromotes Amour blush, a really pretty matte coral pink, and white-gold highlighter Albatross (swatched very heavily here, and the sun wasn’t cooperating to bring out its full loveliness).

Belle de Jour (very peachy nude) and Niagara (strong coral-pink, a la MAC Costa Chic, Red Full-Stop, and Made with Love) are repromotes. Cruising is new, a very pale, very sheer, almost grey pink. Nars lipsticks are $24 each. Both Easy Lover and Ophelia lipglosses are new. Easy Lover is a sheer magenta jelly with tiny, nearly invisible blue sparkles. (Remember Jellies, the shoes? I think I had a pair this exact color.) Ophelia is papaya pink with tiny sparkles.

Thanks so much for swatching this collection! I have been patiently waiting to see these shades. I am placing my order the second I finish with this comment :)

Thanks for covering NARS, he doesn’t get a lot of swatch attention in the beauty blog universe.

Purple Rain really is good — highly pigmented.

I bought Cruising and LOVE it! It’s just a fraction of a shade deeper than my natural lip color (I have none, basically), so it looks as though I’m not wearing any lipstick but I know I look a little less, um, dead than when I go bare-lipped. I think they’ve tweaked the lipstick formula, though — there’s now a subtle but distinct scent of neroli, I think, when you first apply. It dissipates quickly, but Nars lipsticks never had any scent before.

the right side of Kuala Lumpur is a lot deeper than I thought, but still love it and planning to get it! Thx!!!!

I’ve been looking for a good purple forever and I am definitely loving that one!
Also, the site is working much better now. Before, your first post would be waaay down the page. Its right up top now!

Do we enter each day for the giveaway on that post only? If not, my fave part of my look today are my lashes, which actually stayed curled!

Hey Karla! I was just wondering what your opinion on the new NARS Orgasm Illuminator was? (sry if you covered this previously) do you think its worth buying as a highlighter over say the new Dior Lace poudrier, and is there a hint of colour or just pure shimmer? TIA!

  • Hey! Camargue is too pretty!!

  • Tiffany says:

Hm, D. Gorgeous reminds me of All Races. I saw Purple Rain earlier on Scrangie and liked the look of it, but I think I already have enough other purple shimmers that I can pass over this one.

  • KarlaSugar says:

Chrissie — haven’t seen the new Orgasm illuminator yet! It’s not “officially” part of the spring release (I think it’s just a single-product release), but I’ll definitely report as soon as I find it.

  • Enna says:

Karla, could you swatch the new Revlon Photoready foundation, I really want to buy but I live in Germany and have to order in the internet, I just can´t find all the colors. THanks!

I agree w/Alix. Cruising lipstick surprisingly impressed me when I applied. Not sure about staying power but the shade was natural, but better!
