Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush

Make Up For Ever, MUFE, HD, blushTwo years ago, Make Up For Ever (MUFE) introduced a line of HD products, formulated to protect against the embarrassment of “pancake” makeup — and natural imperfections — in a new, high definition media world. (Not that many of us are on the local HD news).

They recently added cream blushes to that line, and the packaging instantly caught my attention. Air is the enemy of cream blush, and these HD blushes ($25 for .33 oz) come in a pump tube — which I have to imagine minimizes contact with air. The blushes also claim “second skin,” textureless, natural color, with a combination of mattifying and reflecting particles that will blur imperfections and leave you looking all-day fabulous.

In a clear conspiracy with Sephora, MUFE launched these online long before they were to appear in stores across the country. From what I’ve heard on Twitter, a very few brick-and-mortar Sephoras received product, but mine were not among them. In a bout of temporary insanity, I contemplated ordering all 14 shades so I could swatch them. Then I calculated the cost. Mercifully, my fabulous friend Marcia and the kind folks at the MUFE boutique in NYC dispensed a few samples into 5g jars and sent them my way to swatch.
Make Up For Ever, MUFE, HD Blush, 3, Truth or Dare, Hot Pink, 4, Walk of Shame, Bubblegum Pink, 6, Quickie, Salmon Pink, 8, PDA, Pinky Nude, 13, Smooth Talker, Vibrant Pale Pink, 14, Star Struck, Pale Peach
No doubt the samples, exposed to air for several days before swatching, suffered somewhat in consistency.  The blushes are highly pigmented, but also seem really blendable.  I look forward to finding testers in store, and swatching these again.

Truth or Dare is a bright pink. Walk of Shame is a cool (blue) pink. Quickie is peach-pink. PDA is tea rose. Smooth Talker is a very cool, pale pink (Viva Glam Gaga-esque?), and I think this sample dried out the most — which is no slight against it, merely a disclaimer before you judge the swatch.  Star Struck is peach, and worth comparing to MAC’s Ripe Peach.

The full list of shades (and Sephora’s color descriptions): 1 Innuendo (vibrant plum), 2 Caught in the Act (bright raspberry), 3 Truth or Dare (hot pink), 4 Walk of Shame (bubblegum pink), 5 Nip Slip (neutral pink), 6 Quickie (salmon pink), 7 One Too Many (peachy beige), 8 PDA (pinky nude), 9 In the Spotlight (nude), 10 Skinny Dipping (light orange brown), 11 Mistaken Identity (redwood brown), 12 First Kiss (bright apricot), 13 Smooth Talker (vibrant pale pink), 14 Star Struck (pale peach).

Yay for helpful swatch elves to send you samples! I think my lemming died – these seem too pigmented for my heavy hand.

    These look fantastic.

Karla, what do you think of the blush names? Why does every blush line since the creation of NARS orgasm have to compete to be racy and provocative? lol

What happened to blush names that referred to the shade themselves?

I’ve heard these dry matte, is this true?
I don’t really see the point of it being a cream if it’s not dewy…more blendable, maybe? :P

Thanks so much for saying that Starstruck compares to Ripe Peach. I want it now, and it doesn’t help that it shares the name of a Lady Gaga song :)
