Naturally, I don’t go out swatching without protection (~SPF 45, usually). Last weekend, the Chantecaille sales associate and I were talking about visible sunscreen lines, and she mentioned that Chantecaille just introduced a new physical sunscreen.
I was skeptical.
Basically, Protection Naturelle SPF 46 PA+++ is a mineral powder in refillable brush. It comes in two shades: Light (translucent) and Bronze (warming). In true Chantecaille form, the powder is incredibly finely milled — it certainly looked invisible on the back of my hand (though that was indoors and just on my hand. Now I really want to give it a full-face/daylight test).
The packaging seemed very nice: the brush was soft, and the handle has a built-in plastic guard (to hold the bristles together when you’re putting the cap back on). It’s also refillable. If I like it, that’s one fewer liquid crammed into my 1-quart travel bag, right?
Protection Naturelle offers UVA/UVB protection, and can be worn on bare skin or over makeup. A filled brush is $65; the refill is $30.
Chantecaille mentions a few other benefits: the product contains lauroyl lysine (a derivative of coconut oil, used as a skin- and hair-conditioning agent), and calcium silicate. It promises to absorb excess oil (yet still be good for dry skin), and provide a “soft focus” look that isn’t mask-like.
Have you tried it? I’d love to know what you think.
