MAC’s latest collection (Dare to Wear) goes on sale at counters tomorrow, and is already available online. The collection is an artist’s dream, or an open challenge — are you bold enough to try THIS?
The collection includes a literal rainbow of eyeshadow shades — some pulled from the ranks of the pro-only shadows, a few repromotes from the regular permanent line, and a few new-and-limited edition shades.
For me the shadows fell into three texture groups: good, okay, and hard to work with. Some of the shades were lovely, smooth, and very pigmented (Sky Blue, Zingy, Crazy Cool). But others (Free to Be, Lime, Aqua, Atlantic Blue, Shock-a-holic) took a lot of work to swatch. I really had to pack those colors on.
The letters in parentheses tell you the shadow’s finish: Matte, Frost, Satin, and Veluxe Pearl.
The new, limited edition shades are Louder, Please, Sassy Grass, Zingy, Crazy Cool, and Shock-o-holic. Going Bananas is also limited edition, but we’ve seen it before. Lime, Aqua, and Sky Blue are pro colors. Free to Be, Winkle, and Atlantic Blue are permanent. All potted MAC shadows are $14.50 each.
The collection also introduces a new lipgloss formula — though it’s called “Lipglass.” These glosses come in a tall, skinny tube, and the formula is opaque and densely packed with tiny glitter.
Dare to Dare is lilac-pink with light blue sparkles. Bold & Brash is red with pink sparkles. Ban This! is plum with pink and dark blue sparkles. Gimme That! is hot pink with medium blue sparkles. So Bad is orange with pink sparkles. Wind Me Up is molten copper with dense pink sparkles. These glosses are $18 each.
