(post for day #2) – I’ve resorted to evilbay for a few nail polishes before – the shipping was cheaper! :P

To stay on the same track (read post from yesterday)… on another occasion my sweet and very patient bf went from sephora to sephora and probably many other makeup stores to hunt down the Chanel 505, on one of his trips to the states. He found it :) :) and even brought back a an extra for me to provide my to friend.

What’s the most extreme thing you’ve done to track down a makeup purchase?

When a magazine gave away a full size Benefit lipgloss, I purchased 3 issues to get the color I wanted since it came in a box and you couldn’t see the color inside :)

  • Victoria says:

the most extreme thing i have done to track down a makeup item is to convince my friend to buy me a eyeshadow at Sephora in New York during their honeymoon hahah

  • katie says:

I haven’t done anything too extreme – I usually can find what I’m looking for. Now, if MAC discontinued “shrrom” eyeshadow, I’d go to crazy lenghts just to find it and buy it all up :)

  • katie says:

    oops. double posted ^^ Apologies.
Oh and “shrrom” was supposed to be “shroom”. I am not awake yet apparently!

  • Audrey H. says:

I called beauty counters long distance all across the country, (this was back when there was no free long distance or free cell phone minutes) looking for Sisley products. My phone bills were atrocious.

Calling all store locations, hoping one would have the item in stock

  • Kacey says:

(comment for day #3) Once, I almost got back in touch with a man I’d resolved never to speak to again because I knew he’d bought me a Tarte product I’d been lemming for months as a gift, and it was just sitting waiting for me to claim it! I didn’t go to quite such lengths, though. :P

  • Candice says:

I got a friend from Singapore to buy me a Asia-exclusive product. My friends haven’t stopped making fun of me…

  • Coco says:

Hmm, another thing I did was check a website everyday for five months straight just for a sold out limited edition item! At first, it wasn’t much of a big deal but to do that for five months straight without missing a day was torture haha. It was well worth it though :]]!

  • Maren says:

When we´ve been to the US (Las Vegas) last year, I forced my bf and my brother to drive around half a day in order to find ULTA there. We did past the ULTA sign about 3 times on the interstate, but didn´t know where to drive. When we finally got there I grabbed some Mario Badescu stuff and was out the door.

  • valli says:

I bought 3 issues of the same magazine just to get the gloss that was given away with it in the color I liked :)

  • Kacey says:

(comment for day #4) I have, on occasion, swapped with the lovely ladies on MUA for discontinued items. Perhaps not the most radical means, but definitely not typical for me!

  • Chaia says:

I can’t drive (due to wheelchair) so I got DH to drive me an hour each way to get Revlon Photoready at CVS because there aren’t any in our city. To make it a bit less crazy, he found a restaurant in that city that he wanted to go to so we made it a date night centered around makeup.

  • Coco says:

Another thing I did was ask my uncle (who lives in Canada) to get a hold of Lancome’s limited edition only-sold-in-Canada 10th anniversary Juicy Tubes designed by Yayoi Kusama and ship them back to me. Weeks later I found out my sister was going to Canada and of course asked her to track down the rest and bring ‘em all back (what my uncle couldn’t find :]).
