NYFW S/S 2011: MAC for Mandy Coon

Mandy Coon, MAC, NYFW, MBFW, fashion week, ready to wear, spring/summer 2011When I finished taking pictures and notes at Kimberly Ovitz, I wandered out and noticed that the Mandy Coon show was getting ready next door. They said it was alright to go take a look (though hair and makeup was already finished with the models), so I pulled out my camera.

My first reaction was confusion. Several models appeared to have hat-hair… by which I mean their hair had been styled into beanie-like hats. But MAC senior artist Romero Jennings explained that the collection had been inspired by jellyfish (here’s a nice review of the clothing on Style.com). And while the clothes might not have been very literal, hair, makeup, and staging definitely painted the picture. The girls stood in formation on a seamless white background, while aquatic blue lights danced around them. The hairstyles I originally took for hats were actually quite jellyfish-like in shape. And the makeup was extremely simple: Face and Body foundation with a lot of blue iridescent pigment, for an opalescent effect.
