MAC Tartan Tale: Lip Bags, Lash and Line Bags

MAC, Tartan Tale, Lip Bags, Lash and Line Kit, display, holiday, 2010Just a few more bundled items in MAC’s holiday collection: the Lip Bags, the Lash and Line Bags, and a Nordstrom-exclusive Mineralize Kit. I have to say, I think MAC put together some awesome sets this year. As with the brush sets, each bag comes with a long strap, so you can wear it as a cross-body purse.

Let’s start with the lip bags (because I love them!). Each set is $36.

Dazzle the Lads contains sheer-browned-wine-with-gold-sparkles Cremesheen Baron’s Rose, sheer-light-apricot-with-blue-and-gold-sparkles Moth to Flame Dazzleglass, and peachy rose Draw Me Close lipliner. A lot of MAC lipliners seem so purple… I really love that Draw Me Close isn’t.

The Vain & Glorious Lip Bag repromotes Mellow Mood (at last!), a gorgeous rose-pink lustre. It also repromotes Baby Sparks Dazzleglass (warm, sheer, light pink with blue sparkles) and In Synch lipliner.

If I may be permitted to grumble a bit, I wish I could swap the two liners… I want both Mellow Mood and Draw Me Close.

‘Tis Noble to Give Lip Bag contains just two lip products: Viva Glam V lipstick and Viva Glam V lipglass. If I’d forgotten why VGV is MAC’s best-selling VG lipstick, this swatch reminded me. The color is rose with gold sparkles… gorgeous. The lipgloss version of the color is just a bit more beige/brown than the lipstick. As with all Viva Glam products, 100% of the purchase price ($36) will be donated to MAC’s AIDS charity.

Now I hate to say this, but if you don’t LOVE the bag that this lip kit comes in, both the lipstick and the gloss are permanent colors. You could buy both for $29, and all that money would STILL go to charity.
MAC, Tartan Tale, holiday, 2010, Lash and Line Kits, Noble Knights, Violet My Love, Blitz and Glitz, Teal, Macroviolet, Violet, pigment, swatches, Nordstrom exclusive, The Swinging Violets, Earthly Riches, Mineralize Eyeshadow, Bare Study, paint pot, Icescape, lipglass, KarlaSugar, Karla Sugar
There are two “Lash and Line” kits. These are $36 each and contain a full-sized pigment (loose eyeshadow), fluidline (potted creme eyeliner), mini Zoom Lash mascara, and short-handled 209 eyeliner brush.

Violet My Love offers Violet pigment and Macroviolet fluidline; Noble Knights includes Teal pigment and Blitz & Glitz fluidline.

One quick note about Blitz & Glitz: the sparkles are really tiny and subtle. Blacktrack is MAC’s “black” Fluidline, but until you swatch Blitz & Glitz side-by-side with Blacktrack, you might not even notice the sparkles.

MAC, Tartan Tale, Mineralize Kit, Nordstrom Exclusive, Swinging VioletsThere are also three Mineralize Kits this year. They come in metal pencil boxes, and contain a mineralize eyeshadow duo, a paint pot, a lipglass, and a mini Zoom Lash mascara. They’re $49.50 each, and one of them (Swinging Violets) is exclusive to Nordstrom. The other two (My Scottish Fling and Glamorous) are exclusive to freestanding MAC stores and

The Swinging Violets contains Earthly Riches mineralize eyeshadow duo, Bare Study paint pot, and Icescape lipglass. (Nothing new, but it’s nice to see Earthly Riches and Icescape again.)

I love Mellow Mood! I wish it were permanent.

Before I even read your commentary, I thought the same thing about the lip bags, I wish Draw Me Close was in the same bag as Mellow Mood!!! In Synch just seems a bit too bright (springy/summery even) for the lipstick and gloss with which its grouped…and I don’t like it as well as Draw Me Close.

Even though I rarely comment, I check your blog several times a day. Your skin tone is closer to mine than any other bloggers/swatchers I have found, so checking KarlaSugar really IS the best thing to going shopping for myself! Also, I only have a Lancome, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Shiseido, and Arden counter within reasonable driving distance, so I buy most of my makeup online. This blog has provided me with a much needed service!! Thanks so much!!!

  • I love the Macroviolet fuildline!

    Hi Karla
Do you know when the swinging violets kit will be released at nordstrom? I checked the website and it’s not there. Is it available at stores only? Thanks.

I’m so excited I have a teal pigment in the mail to me right now. It looks so fabulous in your swatch and we have very similar skin tones. Thanks!

  • Jean says:

Can I ask: is Baron’s Rose lipstick a dupe for Nars Petit Monstre lipstick (holiday 2010)??

  • KarlaSugar says:

Goldie – I also wondered why the Nordstrom kit wasn’t yet online… I’m going to ask customer service. (EDIT: it’s online now.)

Jean – Good eye. The colors are definitely similar. I think Petit Monstre is just a smidge rosier; Baron’s Rose more wine. There’s also the difference in finish: Petit Monstre is slightly frosty, Baron’s Rose creamier (and probably a bit more sheer) with gold sparkles.

Do you happen to know if Draw Me Close is at all like Beurre cremestick liner? They look like they could be similar…

  • KarlaSugar says:

Natalie – Beurre is quite purple. I have a swatch here:
