Armani Holiday 2010: Gold Rush, part 1

Armani, holiday, 2010, Gold Rush, displayI was thrilled to find most of Armani’s holiday collection at my counter this past weekend — though I’m still on the hunt for a few pieces, everything I’ve seen so far is amazing. Tragically, everything is also limited edition.*

There are four new Rouge d’Armani lipsticks ($30). Coral Red, Tibetan Orange, and Fuchsia were shades used in Armani’s fall/winter runway show. Missing is Gold Platinum, which I expect to be a sheer, pale gold, metallic shade. I’d normally use a color like that in the center of my bottom lip, on top of another lipstick, for extra pizzazz…  I’ve read that Gold Platinum lipstick can be used on eyes and cheeks as well as lips. (Will you try it?)

There are also two entirely new products: a new kind of eyeshadow called Eyes to Kill Silk Eyeshadow and a lipstain called Effetto Nudo, or Lip Ink.

The Eyes to Kill Silk Eyeshadows ($32) feel like a damp powder. They’re not loose pigments, and they’re not creams… they’re a new species. I swatched these with a sponge-tipped applicator (as usual), and they came out really metallic. Shade 13 (Black) is actually black with tiny blue sparkles. Shade 15 (Black/Gold) is a highly reflective gold/bronze metallic. Shade 16 (White/Black Grey, recommended for dark eyes) is a very cool silver.  There should be four shades in all; #14 Copper/Black Grey (recommended for green and blue eyes) is missing. The bottoms of the pots list the number, not the shade name (if you can call it that), so be prepared to order by number.

The Lip Inks ($27) are serious business. Do not apply them while driving. Do not apply them without a mirror. Do not apply them drunk. They do not come off. After swatching these, I attempted to clean them off with two rounds of Laura Mercier’s cleanse off oil, two rounds of Chanel Gentle Bi-Phase Makeup Remover, soap and water… and I could still see the ghosts on my arm.

The Lip Inks have shade names, but the tubes only have numbers (par for the course for Armani).  I swatched shades 1, 2, and 3, which I think are Black Purple (no brainer), Lavish Red, and Sharp Pink. That would make the missing #4 shade Nude Rose.  I can’t wait to see it.

I also haven’t seen the flagship piece for this collection. the Gold Rush palette. A soft, universal beige, sheer shimmer powder to give you a golden glow. I love highlighters for the holidays. The powder is packaged in a gold and black lacquered signature compact, sold for $55.

There’s also a new Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara ($30), with a new, texturized brush, said to deliver crazy volume.

AND: for those of you who live in or around Dallas, Armani’s national artist Tim Quinn will be at Neiman Marcus Northpark on Thursday, November 11 and Friday, November 12.  He’s brilliant and charming and hilarious, so if you have the chance to go see him, definitely take it.  If you want to make an appointment at the counter, their number is 214-363-8311 x2121 (or just ask for Armani).

*EDIT: I originally reported that the entire holiday collection was limited edition. Though the lipsticks and highlighter are, I just confirmed with an Armani trainer that the Lip Inks and Eyes to Kill Silk shadows are here to stay. In fact, next spring should see the release of 12 shades of Eyes to Kill Silk, including the four in the holiday collection.

Wow! This is the first GA collection that’s got me saying that! I’m definitely interested in the lippies, lip stains and the eyeshadows…

Any idea how drying the lip inks might be? I’m always on the lookout for a good stain, and I’d gladly pay Armani prices for something with lasting power that didn’t dry me out.

I’ve been looking for Eyes to Kill Silk shadow in #14 Copper black everywhere and no luck. It’s not on the Armani website and Nordstrom claim’s it’s discontinued. The Armani website calls #15 Copper black but it’s really the same as the #15 Gold black that Karla swatched.

Karla, can you check into whether #14 Copper black actually exists?

  • AcademicGirl says:

    Anyone?

I haven’t tried these on, but with a great stain (as these would seem to be), you should be able to put them on, let them set, and then keep your lips hydrated with chapstick/lipgloss without budging the color.

So great seeing you in Dallas! The #14 never arrived – hopefully will arrive this spring with the rest of the shades…
    Enjoy!!

I just searching for comments on silk eye shadow and see this website. Yes #14 did exist and I’ve bought one in Hong Kong.

I keep searching and here’s a picture of how it looks:
