Dior Spring 2011: Gris Montaigne

Dior, Spring 2011, Gris Montaigne, promoGuerlain isn’t the only company celebrating their origins this spring. Dior’s spring collection is called Gris (Grey) Montaigne, inspired by Christian Dior’s original Paris boutique at 30 Avenue Montaigne.

The collection features two new eyeshadow quints. The first is 034 Gris (a “regular,” non-iridescent, powder quint). Its shades are shimmery ice blue (almost grey), a low-shimmer steel grey, a matte black with silver sparkle, a shimmery steel grey, and a bright white shimmer.

There’s also a new “Designer” quint. These feature a glitter topcoat (second shade) and a cream liner (fifth shade). 018 Soft Pink Design features a soft, low-shimmer purple-grey; a pink-and-white glitter topcoat; a very soft, very sheer, softly-shimmery lilac pink; a very soft, sheer, iridescent white shimmer; and a gunmetal grey cream liner.

All Dior quints are now $58.

There are two new Rouge Dior lipsticks ($30): 540 Spring Pink is a bright, cool pink, and 658 Chic Pink is an even brighter, cooler (azalea) pink.

There are two new Serum de Rouge lipsticks ($32): 240 Pink Coral is a sheer, warm pink, and 460 Pinky Mauve is a sheer, mauvey pink.

There are two new Dior Addict Ultra Glosses ($26.50 each, though the display at Sephora says $27). 654 Pink Veil is a strawberry pink with tiny sparkles. It reminds me of Chanel Nakkar, but the Dior is more pink (not as warm). 707 Trianon Silver is a Sephora exclusive, a sheer grey with pink and silver sparkles.

There are two nail polishes to this collection ($21 each). 707 Gris Montaigne is a creme slate grey, that’s essentially opaque in one coat. 349 Pink Boa is a very sheer pink, not available at Sephora.

There’s also an eyeliner pencil ($28): 077 Smoky Grey, which is a reflective gunmetal grey.

Though I swatched everything in the Gris Montaigne display, I was still left with questions about this collection. First of all, I am totally unclear as to which items are limited edition.

Second, there are some items unaccounted for. The internet alludes to two “Cannage” eyeshadow quads (Whisper Grey and Dawn Grey) — are these exclusive to certain retailers? The Asian market?

I’ve also seen images of an eyeshadow single (#53 Graphic Grey) and “Color Moist Powder” (a powder foundation, I presume). And some sources say that the second nail polish color should be 108, not 349 (again, is that for Asia?).

Last (and most beautiful), Dior released THREE grey “city” polishes for three fashion capitals. You’ve seen 707 Gris Montaigne (Paris), but there’s also 807 NY 57th (New York, a darker, anthracite metallic grey) and 797 Bond Street (London, a deeeeeep blue-grey creme).  Cafe Makeup has swatches of all three, and holy carp, I want Bond Street.

I want Bond Street and Whisper Grey!

I love the lipsticks and the nail polishes, but this collection screams more fall than spring to me, probably because of all the grey.
Do you have the new Chanel Rouge allure in Coquette? How does Chic Pink compare to it?

You’re awesome! I was checking out Nordstrom this morning, wondering when someone would swatch the lipsticks, and you came to the rescue again! I was planning on getting Pink Coral, but not that I see that it’s so sheer, I’ll opt for Chic Pink!

I purchased the Gris eyeshadow quint last week, and it’s really gorgeous on. I loved the colors of the designer quint, however, not a fan of cream products mixed in with powder in one palette, so I passed.

    Hi Karla,

Thanks so much for all the work that you do. It’s really a great contribution to the beauty community.

I did a little investigating, it looks like the Dior Cannage is on the Dior website, but it says that it’s currently unavailable but is new. Now my guess is that it’s going to be available to us, but is only out in Asia right now. It may be a distribution issue or marketing “trick”. I’ve sent them an email, so hopefully they’ll answer the question. I’d like to see them available too and to know what our costs will be. I’ll let you know what I find.

    D :)

I never got an answer, but I think it will be available as later on.

  • Danielle says:

Addendum: they said mid March it will be available
