The idea that made the brand famous was “seven easy pieces,” a collection of seven modern clothing essentials that could be mixed and matched for day or evening. Donna Karan applied the same concept to her anniversary lipstick collection: seven shades to cover all your lipstick needs.
Tender Peach is a semi-sheer, slightly rosy peach with gold shimmer. The only other shimmer is browned-wine Classic Ruby; the shimmery shades have a bit more slip to them.
The other five shades are satin, or semi-matte. They’re a little bit drier, and full coverage on my skintone. They’re also semi-staining — and unscented. Chic Pink is an almost mauvey blue-pink; Runway Red is a showstopping warm red. Modern Wine is more muted warm red. Rich Raisin is mauve, and Black Plum is a slightly browned red-plum.
In the spirit of mixing and matching, I applied Modern Wine, blotted it off, then put Tender Peach on top of it. The results was magnificent, if I do say so myself. I’ll try to capture a lip-swatch for you.
The set is $95 (which works out to about $13.50 a lipstick), and it is limited edition. You can’t buy the lipsticks separately — though you could always split a set with a friend. The sets are available in Donna Karan Boutiques, Holt Renfrew, and online via Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Nordstrom.
