This past weekend I had the great pleasure of hanging out (shopping, talking, swatching) with Jennifer of Em Just Like You.
I am slowly learning how different products look on different skintones. It’s a subject that fascinates me (and one I wish I knew more about), so it was a real treat to swatch with Jennifer. She’s Vietnamese-American, and she wears NC35 in MAC Studio Fix, (C4 in Studio Fix Powder), Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Compact in Warm Natural 4.5, and Lancome Teinte Miracle in 7N.

Peek-at-You seemed even more sheer on Jennifer’s slightly darker arm. And Dalliance looks less green on her than it did on me. It was gorgeous, shimmering in the sunlight (clearly, this color is a win for all skintones).
Prance, I thought, pulled more lavender and less silvery. And I didn’t see the gold-reflection in Top of the Posh — it really just looked pink. Tweet Me looks brighter, more peach and more golden. Mating Call looks about the same on both of us.
We didn’t see as much of Odalisque’s gold sparkle on Jennifer, though she loved the color. Sexpectations was a bricky, metallic rose; Paparazz-she was like pumpkin-ginger spice. These two are about the same on both of us. But I thought Ego (blackened blue-green) looked much better on her.
Noir Plum, which didn’t really catch my attention on my own arm, was dazzling on Jennifer. Â But Dandizette looked more complex on me. Spectacle of Yourself was about the same on both of us. Center Stage (Jennifer’s favorite) was warmer and more vibrant on her than on me. Unflappable (which is distinctly brown-grey on me) was much greyer on her.
I don’t think the Kissable lipcolors swatched so differently, since we swatched these as full-coverage lipcolor (instead of sheering them out). But it is nice to see how the colors compliment Jennifer’s skin.
