Chanel Rouge Coco Shine

It’s almost summer, which means you have a plethora of new lipsticks to choose from. One of the most hotly anticipated formulas is Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine, the sheer counterpart to last summer’s Rouge Coco. Rouge Coco Shines are $32 each. Each offers a sheer wash of color, and the formula has a good amount of “slip” — it almost liquifies as it transfers from the tube to your lips. Chanel, Rouge Coco Shine, swatches, Canotier, Biarritz, Deauville, Bel Ami, Cavaliere, Fetiche, Elise, Unique, Bonheur, KarlaSugar, Karla Sugar The first five shades are what Chanel considers the Beige/Brown category. Canotier is a sheer beige with multicolored sparkles (giving it a very slightly frosty appearance). Biarritz is rosy peach brown. Deauville is a light, sheer, wine brown. Bel Ami is a terracotta reddish brown. Cavaliere is purple brown. If any of these is too sheer for your tastes, you may prefer them over lipliner.

The next four are the “Violet/Berry” family (though the classifications seem loose and flexible). Fetiche is a medium pink with perhaps a blush of plumminess to it. Elise is a reddish rose pink. Unique is a reddish berry pink with gold sparkles. Bonheur is red-violet. Chanel, Rouge Coco Shine, swatches, Liberte, Sari d'Eau, Rebelle, Monte Carlo, Chance, Romance, Aventure, Evasion, Boy, KarlaSugar, Karla Sugar Liberte is sheer coral. Sari d’Eau is orange with gold sparkles. Rebelle is sheer apple red. Monte Carlo is sheer strawberry pink with blue sparkles. Chance is milky, pale, cool pink. Romance is medium pink (the most intense pink of all the RC Shines). Aventure is a lighter blue-pink with gold sparkles. Evasion is a warm, peach-pink. Boy is sheer, slightly mauvey blue-pink.

Boy previously enjoyed a limited Valentine’s Day early release (click here for my previous swatches and lip-swatch of that shade). This time I randomly tried on Rebelle. I LOVED it — so perfect for summer! And just the right punch of color for my skintone. The lipstick itself did not last that long, but the pigment stayed behind (so my lips weren’t naked). Still, as a dry-lipped Chapstick-fiend, this detail might keep me from collecting the whole set.

Stay tuned for a future post on Rouge Coco Shine — I still have to swatch the exclusive shades for Saks and Neiman Marcus!

    Hmmm, any scent?

  • KarlaSugar says:

I made a point of sniffing the lipstick when I swatched Boy (because I knew that tester was brand new) and detected a faint floral scent. I didn’t notice a scent putting on Rebelle this time.

  • Leona says:

Do I want Chance or Boy to try these out? Which do you think is more pigmented?

  • vonnie says:

really love 42, 44, 55….great swatches as usual!

  • Alexis says:

I am loving Rebelle too. It packs a punch even for my NC42 skin tone.

I cannot wait to go back to pick it up – so happy that this is permanent. I can breathe easy knowing that I do not need to rush back for it!

  • Kimberly says:

Do you know what shades Neimans and Saks will get?

  • I’m really tempted to get one of these. I’ve yet to see them in person so this will definitely help me narrow my choice down pre-counter visit. Thank you!

  • Ariel says:

Oh my goodness, I want them all! I already have Boy, but I love the look of all of the pinks, especially Aventure, Evasion, and Chance. Was Rebelle your favorite?

  • Petrina says:

I love these! Perfect work/day lippies – bought boy n the lively SA gave me a small sample + lipbrush of liberate, adventure, boy n Monte Carlo – Monte carlo n Adventure would be next purchases!

  • Faye says:

I bought Liberte, Rebelle, Boy, and Romance the day before you posted this. Love this formula! I can’t wait to see the Saks and NM exclusive shades. When are those coming out in stores?

  • KarlaSugar says:

Leona, I think Chance will be the more pigmented of the two.

Saks’s shade is Antigone (and I think it’s a plummy-pink). Neiman Marcus’s shade is Misia (which I believe is coral. NM is also getting to repromote Miami Peach nail polish, a coral-pink with gold sparkle).

All my counters (Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman Marcus) have their tester units out now — trying to pre-sell, I guess — but you can’t buy them in the U.S. until April 6th. (I think I have that date right…)

  • Tracey says:

Dillard’s is the only Chanel counter I have, and they finally got the testers to presale for April 6th. They’re all so gorgeous I can’t decide. I used to work Estee Lauder and Clinique counters, so I am skeeved out by trying on testers. Thanks for doing it for me! I did sniff Boy and there was a hint of Chanel, rosy lipstick scent, if that bothers you you might want to be careful. I loved Biarritz and Deauville, which looked like they would be good nudes for pigmented lips.

I love those! Do you think you could swatch the Clarins shine sheer lipsticks too? I think they’re supposed to give the same kind of effect, it’d be great to compare the two!

  • Jean says:

I tested Chance and Misia over the weekend at Bergdorf. Chance reminds me of a prettier MAC Hue (on my lips), so a little bit too light for every day, but I did get Misia.
It looks scary coral-orange in the tube, but on the lips reminded me of a warmer Sirop glossimer. (Remember Sirop from back in the day?) Very pretty!

    Thanks for these, Karla!

  • Natalie says:

Karla,is Chanel Canotier similar to Nars Little Darling?

    How do they compare?

    Thanks!

  • KellyK says:

I purchased liberte, boy, and because of a delay in shipping they are sending me a complimentary Monte Carlo! I purchased them through the Facebook page that offered free shipping and online presale to Facebook fans! living in a rural area with NO Chanel counter close by, can you believe my luck?!

  • ThesPNation says:

Have you seen the shade Misia? It is exclusive to Neiman Marcus I believe. It is named after Misia Sert, a close friend of Coco Chanel. I’d like to see it if you can swatch it:) ~sP

  • Esther says:

I purchased a trio set in the shades of Boy, Liberte and Aventure that comes with a pouch at the duty free at Changi Airport Singapore. It was only going for SGD 99 for 3! Such a good deal! I was hoping they’d replace Monte Carlo with Aventure but I am sure these are the top 3 shades that they are marketing :) Thanks Karla for the swatches :)

  • Amy says:

I was just at the counter at Nordstrom in North Park the other day and the SA mentioned how much you loved Rebelle. We have similar coloring so I picked it up too and I love it! I also got Boy, Liberte and Romance. Thanks for the great swatches! :)
