In celebration of Earth Month, Aveda is coordinating several fundraising and awareness-raising activities (local “Walk for Water” events, donating money through “Appointments for the Earth”). But one of the easiest and most accessible programs is their Light the Way Candle.
During the month of April, you can buy Aveda’s limited edition Light the Way soy wax candle (100g/3.5 oz., made with certified organic French lavender). It’s $12, and 100% of the purchase price goes to Global Greengrants, a nonprofit charity that supports grassroots sustainability projects in countries around the world.
Aveda has been raising money for environmental charities for the last 12 years — keeping industrial pollution out of wells in Ecuador, preventing deforestation in Nigeria, and building sustainable aquaduct systems in India. This year, their goal is to raise $4 million for clean water.
Light the Way candles are available in Aveda salons and online, at Aveda.com (free shipping at $50)*.
Aveda asked me (and several other bloggers) to help spread the word about their Earth Month efforts, specifically this candle. They intend to send the blogger who inspires the most donations/candle sales to India to see Global Greengrants’ work, firsthand.
I agreed to participate, not because I’m trying to win a trip to India, but because it’s a great cause and I love to see companies making a 100% donation. (If you were going to buy a candle this month anyway, why not make that purchase a charitable one?)
You are welcome to make your purchase in-store or online without “voting” for any particular blogger. Or feel free to use any of the following codes when you check out at Aveda.com.
