I’m talking, of course, about NARS’ new Larger Than Life Eyeliner, the smudge-proof 12-hour-wear pencil in a fabulous selection of colors. The formula isn’t melt-into-liquid creamy, but they mark smoothly and easily without dragging, and — even though I need a proper 105° day to put these through their paces, so far their performance seems excellent.
These totally look like regular pencils, but don’t stick them in a sharpener. They’re actually twist-up (retractable!) mechanical pencils, and the bottom “cap” pulls off to reveal a little sharpener to restore the point.
Larger than Life eyeliners are $23 each, and for the moment, NARScosmetics.com has the exclusive. (Good news: NARS is currently offering free shipping at any price, no code required!)
Via Veneto is matte black. Santa Monica Blvd is matte bright white (I don’t know why, but it makes me think of white wall tires on a Pinto). Via Appia is deep shimmery warm cocoa brown. Abbey Road is brilliant shimmery peacock turquoise blue. Rue Bonaparte is matte “flesh-tone” pink-beige-bisque — a perfect waterline color. Rue Saint-Honore is gorgeous shimmery sapphire. Madison Avenue is matte factory grey and shockingly, this might be my favorite color.
I really love grey on the lower waterline (hence my longstanding affair with Guerlain’s Oriental Metal kohl). But the lower lashline and lower waterline can be really tricky in summer — everything seems to run. Madison Avenue is defining but not harsh, and I think I’ll be reaching for this one a lot.
Missing from this picture are purple Bourbon Street and shimmery green Rue de Rivoli. I’ll get those swatched as soon as I can.
