Tremendous thanks to Nicole, the jetsetting genius behind Beauty-Free (a blog that tracks beauty products exclusive to airports/Duty-Free).
When she’s not circling the globe, Nicole generally lives in England, and she very kindly sent these beautiful swatches of a (new to me!) brand called Makeup Academy. Here is her unedited review (so you, too, can enjoy her delightful Britishness):
There is a drugstore brand here called MUA (Makeup Academy), known for selling all products at £1. The quality is ok, but they have just launched a Professional range with some interesting products. I picked up three of their new eyeshadow palettes and the quality is great, comparable to Sleek. The shades are pigmented and some are quite unique — the only duffs are the glittery colours, which have quite a bit of fallout. They cost £4 each, so a pretty good deal!
The palettes are Heaven and Earth (neutrals), Starry Night (cool silvery shades), and Dusk Til Dawn (the one with the lovely green-blue). The palette pics were taken in indirect sunlight and the swatches were photographed outdoors in direct sunlight.

These palettes look really pretty, especially (and I can’t believe this one is my favorite) Dusk Til Dawn. Something else to look for when I eventually visit England!

They are beautiful and seem like quite the deal. However, as beautiful as some of the shades are something about the overall look of these palettes puts me off them. They’re missing something, I just can’t figure out what…
I’m a neutral girl and that Heaven and Earth Palette is beautiful! I need to find me a UK friend! lol Thanks for the swatches Nicole!
Just an update…I’ve been staring at this post for like 30 minutes! lol I think I’m in love!!!
I actually have the Heaven & Earth, Dusk Till Dawn and another palette, but I forgot the name. The colors are very pretty & since I don;t like in the UK, (I’m a NY girl), I found someone selling them on eBay … Good luck
These palettes can also be gotten through the company’s website, although I got a few through eBay sellers in the UK. This is a ok palette, but I like Sleek’s Au Naturale palette much better because it’s got several mattes in it to balance things out. Sleek’s pots are also somewhat larger, so you get a bit more product, and their packaging is also much much better – to say the least. This brand’s pot size shocked me when it arrived in the mail because they’re so small. About the size of a dime or so. Yes, they’re cheap palettes, but I was somewhat disappointed when I got this one.
great review…and great advice. I’ll surely order this palette…
