A new display just appeared at my NARS counter. It features a “Night Series” palette (six of NARS’s permanently available “Night” shadows) and four (new) complementary nail polishes.
The “Night” shadows are satin/matte shadows with glitter. They’re usually black-based (as is the case with Night Clubbing, Night Porter, Night Flight, Night Breed, etc.) — but not always. The Night series palette is $55 (the standard price for this kind of six-pan palette).

Swatched dry, the palette looks kind of unexceptional. But any NARS powder shadow can be used wet or dry, so I swatched the palette again.

Night Star is matte peach “flesh” with gold sparkles (which might fly away in a dry swatch). Night Clubbing, dry, is black with tiny gold, multicolored sparkles. It’s much more intriguing wet. It becomes a really dark, sooty brown with a rainbow of gold-green-copper sparkles. Night Porter is a satin blackened green when swatched dry, but transforms into a vibrant emerald-jungle-canopy green when used wet. Night Rider is lavender with big irregular “broken glass” glitter (which doesn’t stick to the skin very well, dry). Night Flight is blue-black, another one that transforms when used wet. Night Breed is black with silver sparkles. The sparkles do stick better wet, but they’re not extremely dense either way.

The polishes are quite faithful interpretations of the eyeshadows. Night Porter is dark forest green shimmer with a few gold sparkles. It reminds me of an exotic bug, like a scarab or a bottle-green fly. Night Flight is shimmery dark sapphire blue. Night Breed is black with irregular silver sparkles. And if Night-Rider-the-eyeshadow has somewhat funky glitter, Night-Rider-the-nail-polish has, in my opinion, the best shimmer of the group. It’s lavender with dense, tiny, silver-pink-blue-multi-rainbow shimmer, which sparkles brilliantly silver, like a running stream reflecting sunlight. NARS polishes are $17 each.

The Night Series palette is available on NARScosmetics.com (which is still offering free shipping at any price). And I just heard that Neiman Marcus has the exclusive on the Night Series nail polishes until September.

Does the neiman marcus website have the polishes?Or is it just the store? Also would I be able to order over the phone and have some shipped to me from a store?
They are available online, but the page is hidden for some reason. Try this link: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod135670073&showCrumb=false&catalog_code=NMS11&catqo=true&cmCat=cqo&_requestid=21610 — or use the Catalog Quick Order option at the bottom of the website and enter the item number, NMS11_C0WR9. NM.com has free shipping right now, so that’s probably the better way to go.
Just saw that the polishes are up on the Nordstrom website.
Yep, picked my Night Porter polish up at my local NM. It’s great, suggest it to any dark green or green lover!
Thanks for the swatches! I saw the bottles are already going for $50 each on eBay – definitely crazy, but I’ll be hitting up my Nordstrom this weekend for sure!
I have Night Clubbing and Night Breed eyeshaddows and couldn’t be more pleased. I honestly think it is the best smokey eye I have ever had. Did you see that palette Nordstrom had for their anniversary?
I already have night clubbing but I don’t have the other shades (I’ve always wanted Night Flight, Breed and Porter).
I’m definitely rushing out to get this palette!
The polishes are pretty, but at $17? I’ve been burned before by them and I’d rather spend a few bucks less and pick up Butter London instead.
I do think Night Rider would look awesome layered over black. It actually reminds me a bit of The Color to Watch from the OPI Swiss colllection
Ohhh i really like the Night Rider polish! I wonder if The Color to Watch from the OPI Swiss colllection is a possible dupe like Carrie said or if there are any other dupes??? That will retail for $20+ Canadian + 13% sales tax so i really need a dupe instead!
I have the Night Porter & Night Flight eyeshadows, yet I find myself wanting the palette…I must resist! I might cave for those nail polishes, though.
hi how do i use the eyeshadow wet? wet the brush first and use it to pick up colour from the eyeshadow palette? or use a dry brush and pick up the colour then spray fix+ on the bristle (coated with eyeshadow) and apply?
Wet the brush and then pick up color from the palette, but use water, not Fix +.
