Fascinating International Shopping Tip

Saks Fifth AvenueThis is pretty random, but now through the end of the month (March 31, 2013), Saks is offering free shipping to Canada, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, and Japan on purchases of $99 and up (use code FREESHIP13).

I wish they’d make that offer permanent.

Americans who want free shipping will have to spend at least $150, and use code SFAMAR.

That’s interesting to know. The only problem for a UK resident is the taxes due on an order worth $99 plus. A UK citizen can only import goods worth £18 (about $27) without VAT being added. Anything over £18 and we get stuck with the European Union imposed Value Added Tax which in the UK is 20%. Plus customs inspect what has come in and the carriers charge a handling fee for this. The VAt and charges add up.

Good to have you back and posting again.

Thanks for the tip Karla! It’s not everyday you see free international shipping.

However, like Rose mentioned, the charges in the UK are extortionate if you want to buy from abroad and the limit is actually lower now at £15 to import tax-free, a ridiculously low threshold. Along with the dramatic devaluation of our currency in recent years, it’s not good.

What a bummer! I didn’t know the UK had gotten so strict.

When you sign up with BPM, you get local shipping addresses in 6 countries.
Drop points include: USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. You then use these for buying from whom you want, regardless of where the seller ships or not.
You then have all your purchases combined into one, even from the different countries, and use the parcel mail forwarding service to have everything sent home in only one shipment, wherever you are in the world!
Membership for renting these addresses and using the service is only 5€ per month.
You can check it out on http://www.bpm-lux.com
