It’s no secret that I’m having a little love affair with Givenchy. It’s been building for years, from the days of admiring their counter in Saks, to admiring their spokeswomen (Audrey Hepburn, Liv Tyler). The item that pushed me over the edge, however, was the limited edition Island Tan from their summer collection.

Though they do many things well, this product convinced me that their powders are really something special.Â It’s the loveliest bronzer I’ve ever had.

Anyway, my love for that bronzer led me to do something I generally try to avoid: I bought makeup, sight unseen.

I was lusting over the online-only Blooming collection at first sight, and their description of Blooming Fuchsias blush filled me with desire: “a combination of reds and bright pinks, like a burst of flowers.” I hate buying blind, but I had to pull the trigger.

I’m so glad I did. I love Blooming Fuchsias’ warm pink. The powder is gorgeous, with no shimmer or sparkle. It smells divinely like roses (like actual roses) — though if you disliked the scent, you could probably leave the powder open for a few days and it would dissipate.

The blush was $48.50, and for all I know, I bought the last one at Sephora.com. But in case you encounter it in your travels (Ebay, or even Epcot Center), I thought you should know what it really looked like.

Givenchy Le Prisme Eyeshadow Quartet

Along with their achingly pretty, limited edition, not-available-in-stores Blooming collection, Givenchy recently released six permanent new eyeshadow quads. Le Prisme Eyeshadow Quartets are $56 each, and they are magnificent: pigmented, smooth, and fantastically sexy.

As I mentioned in Blooming’s Sneak Peek, Givenchy has also provided an application suggestion for these quads (but I think that’s just one possibility).Â I believe “unifier” means lid color/base color, and “shadow” is the crease color.

Like all Givenchy products, these are available only at Sephora (and Epcot Center).

Givenchy Summer 2010

I’ve been obsessing about Givenchy’s summer collection ever since I first saw the promo photos. Now that it’s arrived at Sephora, I finally had the chance to swatch it.

Givenchy is best known for its “Prisme” face powders, and the summer collection features two limited edition shades ($45). If you can bring yourself to use them (they’re beautifully embossed with plumeria),Â I think Island Sun is going to be an all-over “hint of color” powder, similar to Chanel’s Poudre Douce. Â Island Tan will be a bronzer for lighter skintones. The powder did seem really luxe; I’d love to hear from anyone who actually uses Prisme face powders.

There are also two limited edition Prisme eyeshadows ($29): Island Lagoon and Island Sun. The powders are mottled, and according to Sephora’s website, each compact contains precisely the same blend of colors, but they’re randomly mixed so each eyeshadow has a slightly different pattern. Â I tried to swatch the different shades separately, but it was utterly impossible, so instead you have a blended swatch.

Finally, there are two limited edition Pop Glosses ($24.50, doe’s foot wand): terracotta-peach Island Guava and red/purple-chocolate-ganache Island Cocoa.

Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit lipstick is $26.50. These cream lipsticks are almost entirely sparkle-free, though I thought I detected a twinkle in Pink Whisper, Marron Glace, and Fatal Plum.

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Shine

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Shine lipsticks are $26.50, and really beautiful. When you first put them on, there is a strong and unpleasant smell of flowers — this dissipates within 30 seconds. I also found the color to be fantastically long-wearing. It felt good and didn’t dry my lips. The Sephora website is completely inaccurate in its swatches; the Givenchy site does a much better job.

I also have to mention what an incredibly exciting color Sun Shine is. Sometimes it looks like MAC’s Springsheen blush in the pot — pink, peach, and gold — but layered it’s red, orange, coral, gold. It’s a completely beautiful color on my pigmented lips.

Givenchy Pop Gloss Crystal

Though it’s not an absolute rule, Givenchy Pop Gloss Crystal are generally the sheer Pop Glosses (to see the more pigmented shades, click here). All Pop Glosses are $23.50, and all Givenchy glosses have a brush applicator.

Pop Orange seems like it might be a non-sticky alternative to Lancome’s very sticky (but pretty) Bolole Juicy Tube. Also the four “Glittering” Pop Gloss Crystals are very sheer. In the tube, Glittering Parm is a clear lilac with blue and green sparkles; Glittering Orange is tangerine (or the color of Tang) with green and gold sparkles; Glittering Pink is a lively pink with green sparkles; and Glittering Pomelo is pink with purple sparkles.

The Sunny shades are all shimmery, and you can click on any picture to view at full size.

Givenchy Lady Pulp Gloss and Pop Gloss

Givenchy gloss is a totally new thing for me, and I’m pretty excited about it. Lady Pulp gloss is $24; Pop Gloss is $23.50. All Givenchy glosses have a brush applicator.

Lady Pulp Glosses are full-coverage, semi-matte, creamy — almost like lipstick in lipgloss form. For similar full-coverage glosses, check out Laura Mercier’s Lip Velvets, Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss Laque, and Dior’s Crème de Gloss.

Pop Gloss is still medium-to-full-coverage, but has a glossier, shinier finish.
