Estee Lauder’s Topaz may not shout from the display, but it’s one of my favorite spring collections so far.

The collection is hot, and for me evoked a sundrenched Caribbean island. Estee Lauder’s creative director Tom Pecheux says he was inspired by the Arizona desert. Either way, I feel warmer just looking at it. Topaz is a semi-precious gem that I first think of as yellow (though I’ve seen blue topaz as well). If, like me, you enjoy collecting random facts, click here to learn more about the gemstone.

The collection includes a Pure Color eyeshadow quint (possibly my favorite Lauder eyeshadow palette to-date) and their second ever Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee.

Pure Color Five Color Eyeshadow Palette 21 Topaz Mosaic is glorious. Every shade is so smooth and pigmented. The combination of colors is just neutral enough that I feel like I could wear it often, but includes shades I don’t already own (and suddenly need: orange, yellow). It’s versatile but not quirky or one-note. I really think this is the best Estee Lauder quint I can remember swatching.

The palette includes a satin pumpkin, a shimmery tawny golden sand, a satin daffodil yellow, a low-shimmer beige-peach, and a satin red wood-brown. It is $45, limited edition.

Modern Mercury (fall 2011) included Estee Lauder’s first Illuminating Powder Gelee, a shimmery “gel-powder” that could be applied wet or dry. Because it was the first of its kind, that sparkly beige-pink highlighter didn’t have a shade name.

This collection launches the second (also limited edition) Illuminating Powder Gelee, a shimmering, sparkling, warming golden copper highlight that can be used on eye or cheek. It’s 01 Topaz Chameleon, $40, and I swatched it dry (first lightly, then heavily, with a triangle sponge).

This collection introduces Pure Color Intense Kajal Eye Crayons, a chubby pencil eyeliner semi-inspired by the chalk-type kajal eyeliners you can so easily buy in India. The sales associate explained (and it makes sense) that the very sharp point will help you draw a more precise line.

Even though it’s a simple, basic black eyeliner (and maybe a silly thing to lust over), I adore 01 Dramatic Black. I tried it on at the counter and it went on so smoothly and easily. It was actually very easy to apply a thin black line to my inner rim (I tightlined with it, too). Since I applied in the afternoon on a cold day (difficult to test heat-/humidity-proofing or wear time), I showered and napped in it — no fallout, no smudging.

The new Kajal Eye Crayon is not the same as taller, thinner Intense Kajal Eyeliner that just came out with the Cyber Eyes collection. These chubby crayons have a little less fallout, and they’re a little softer.

Whenever I see the word “kajal” or “kohl” on an eyeliner, I assume it’s meant to be used on the waterline (that it depends on the moisture of your eye to fix it). Kohls are usually smudgy when used on the upper lashline.

The Intense Kajal Crayons are $22 each, available in 01 Dramatic Black and 03 Dramatic Teal. And can you believe they’re limited edition?? Why oh why?

This collection includes three Sensuous Rouge lipsticks ($28, semi-sheer with a moisturizing core and a vanilla scent). 15 Sublime Nectar is new and limited edition, a sheer creme peach-pink. 03 Sensuous Nude and 02 Sultry Caramel are repromotes from the permanent line. (Sensuous Nude: a sheer peach caramel nude that I’m still in love with. Sultry Caramel: shimmery russet red-brown.)

There’s also a new, limited edition Pure Color lipgloss ($22.50). 50 Citron Kiss is sheer yellow with silver sparkles. As I learned with the yellow gloss in Alice + Olivia, yellow glosses settle down into a kind of honey color on the lips. Backstage at fashion week last September, Tom Pecheux explained that yellow gloss is the perfect transitional item to warm up your fall and winter lipsticks, and keep wearing them into spring. Try using it to tone down a too-bright red or pink.

There’s just one limited edition nail polish: 28 Teal Topaz ($19). I found a sales associate wearing it, and she agreed to be my hand model.

Teal Topaz is a teal creme that’s opaque in two coats (indoor lighting makes it look a little more green). I thought it reminded me of Ocean Dip from last summer’s MAC Surf Baby, but it’s deeper, more subdued, not as bright. The color also reminds me of this old Chevy I saw at a stoplight.

This collection is available everywhere Estee Lauder is sold, though NeimanMarcus.com is in gift right now (plus free shipping with code SHIPNM).

Do you love this collection as much as I do?

NARS’ spring collection officially launches on counters on February 1 (and it’s already available online). Based on the promo photo, it looks like a sweltering hot spring. I think by now we’re used to NARS marching to the beat of its own drummer; I’m not even going to try to shoehorn this collection into “seasonal trends.”

Eyeshadow trio Douce France (named after a 1942 song by French singer-songwriter Charles Trenet) includes a satin/matte pale white pink with very tiny silver sparkles (it would be matte, but the sparkles give it a satin finish), a warm carnation pink, and a very nicely pigmented matte cranberry. It’s $45, limited edition.

Paramaribo eyeshadow duo (named after the capital of the Republic of Suriname, the smallest independent country in South America and a former Dutch colony. Where are you NOW, Carmen Sandiego?) includes a frosty yellow-lime and a shimmery browned golden olive. The duo is $34, also limited edition.

It’s a good thing Lhasa is permanent, because otherwise I’d expect it to cause a riot. It’s a shimmery grey-purple, $24. The shadow is named after the high-altitude Tibetan city, home to several major Buddhist temples.

There’s a new, permanent Soft Touch Shadow Pencil: sheeny cobalt blue Dark Rite. It’s $24, and NARS recommends wearing it as shadow, as base for powder shadow, or as eyeliner.

The collection also repromotes Larger Than Life eyeliner Abbey Road (peacock blue, $23).

Spring offers three lip choices, all new additions to the permanent line. Bilbao lipstick ($24, named after the city in Spain) is a warm brown-rose with a subtle sheen. It’s not a color I would normally swoon over, but it looks great paired with gloss. Here’s a photo from a recent NARS makeover: Bilbao lipstick with Greek Holiday lipgloss.

Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick ($25, named after the city in Chile) is a red-violet-berry.

Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil ($24, named after the flower) is a bright, warm, watermelon pink, my favorite color so far of this formula. It’s slightly staining, so color carefully.

There are two nail polishes in the spring collection. Diamond Life is limited edition, a shimmery pansy purple. Ecume (white creme) is a repromote. Both are $18.

There’s also a new, permanent addition to NARS’ blush lineup: cool, whitened, frozen-pink-with-super-tiny-silver-shimmers Gaiety. It’s $28, and I wish I owned the discontinued Chanel Narcisse so I could compare the two.

The collection also repromotes Albatross, the lovely, shimmery, permanent, white/gold highlighter. It’s also $28.

What will you be picking up from this collection?

Of the seven collections on MAC’s counters right now (Daphne Guinness, Metal X, Tour de Fabulous, Lip Mix, Mineralize Skincare, Naturally), Iris Apfel — with her bold, bright lips — was unquestionably going to be in the highest demand. The collection was limited, however, to freestanding stores and MACcosmetics.com, and both sold out in a New York minute.

Though I actually love everything about this collection, the number one thing you need to know about is the lips. I’ve been hunting these lipsticks so long it’s making me crazy — making me want to buy more than I think I would under less stressful shopping circumstances.

Pink Pigeon (Matte) is bright magenta (purple-pink). Scarlet Ibis (Matte, prononced “EYE biss”) is red-coral. Party Parrot (Matte) is intense watermelon pink. Flamingo (Lustre) is a sheer warm pink that’s surprisingly demure on the lips. Morange (Amplified Creme) is a regular permanent shade, construction-orange.

The lipliners are $14 each. Entertain Me and Embrace Me are actually limited edition repromotes (cross-promotes?) from the Tour de Fabulous collection; Redd is a regular, permanent shade.

The collection also includes five eyeshadows ($15 each).

Silver Gull (Velvet) is a matte dove-grey/smoke-grey matte with a few very tiny silver sparkles. I like the color, but the shadow is chalky. Robin’s Egg (Matte) happily reminds me of Cool Heat, a collection from the summer of 2008. If I had a time machine, revisiting Cool Heat would be one of my stops. Anyway, Robin’s Egg is a bright, matte, green teal. Diamond Dove (Matte) is another beautiful color, a dark brown matte taupe. It’s also chalky.

I expected Early Bird (Matte) to be like Free to Be, from Liberty of London (chalky) — but it’s so nice! Early Bird is a lovely, pigmented coral-pink. For the past year, I’ve been obsessed with the promo image from YSL’s spring 2011 collection. Now I want to try recreating the look using Early Bird.

Howzat (Satin) is also very nice: a softly shimmery charcoal repromoted from one of the Snowglobe eyeshadow palettes in the 2011 holiday collection.

There are three new, limited edition nail polishes (each $15). Oriele Orange is a red-orange coral. Sandpiper is a sheer trenchcoat beige. Toco Toucan is a cool fuchsia pink.

And last but definitely not least, this collection repromotes Too Chic Beauty Powder highlighter (previously released in Stylishly Yours). I had forgotten how beautiful this powder is. It’s a pearlescent, gently shimmery, delicate, pale golden shimmer that builds to a glowing golden white as you swatch it more heavily. If you blindfolded me, swatched this on my arm, then asked me to guess what it was, I think I would’ve guessed something much more expensive. Too Chic is $23.

If, like me, you have been stalking MAC’s website hoping they’ll restock, don’t fret. I’m planning to do some comparison swatching, and hopefully we’ll be able to match some of the Iris Apfel lipsticks with their closest permanent and pro relatives.

Does the mention of a new Mineralize collection from MAC make you weak in the knees? I think MAC thinks it does — and maybe the general population does feel this way — but I don’t know if I’m inherently drawn to (any brand’s) baked products. I’m much more likely to fall in love with a color palette.

The Naturally collection is a fantasia on neutrals. MAC periodically revists this genre — their most beloved interpretation was probably 2008′s N Collection.

Naturally’s promo picture reminds me of a passage from Wuthering Heights: “bees humming dreamily about among the bloom, and the larks singing high up overhead, and the blue sky and bright sun shining steadily and cloudlessly.” It’s a quiet collection, but worth your attention.

Starting with the lips, there are four lipsticks ($14.50). A Perfect Day (Amplified Creme) is a muted, dusty, mauvey pink. Beach Sand (Cremesheen) is a warm tan, a rose-beige-brown. I think J.Crew might sell a knitted sweater in just this color. Sweet Sunrise (Lustre) is a pale, warm pink. Pillow Talk (Cremesheen, and a repromote from the Overnight Sensation Lip Bag in Nordstrom’s 2011 Anniversary Collection) is a warm, rosy brown.

There are also four Lipglass lipglosses ($14.50). Wee Coquette (originally released as a mini in 2010′s Tartan Tale and repromoted in MAC Me Over) is a very pale white-pink with silver sparkles. Fresh Air is warm, sheer pink with multicolored sparkles. Naked Space (a repromote from Neo Sci-Fi) is a soft orange with gold multicolored sparkles. Hot Spell is a warm, burned caramel with multicolored sparkles. All of the lipsticks and glosses are limited edition.

There are three new mineralize blushes ($22, limited edition). Subtle Breeze is a cool, candied rose. Fresh Honey is sherbet orange. Early Morning (my favorite) is a tropical red papaya, a sunrise color with a slight sheen.

Here are heavy swatches.

In what I think was a brilliant move, MAC also repromoted two Mineralize Skinfinish powders with this collection. Redhead and Blonde were two fabulous products to come out of a fabulous collection called Blonde, Brunette, Redhead. Redhead is peach with gold shimmer (and is the slightly more sparkly/shimmery of the two); Blonde is warm pink with a silvery sheen. These might be sheer blushes or highlighters, depending on your complexion. They are $28 each.

There are a handful of Mineralize Eyeshadows ($20). Daylight is a shimmery violet. In the Sun is a shimmery tomato with pale gold sparkles. Summer Haze is frosty peach-pink. The aptly named Cloudy Afternoon is a soft, cloudy, shimmery silver-grey. Twilight Falls is a gently sparkly, almost bruisey black-plum.

The collection also repromotes two permanent Eye Pencils ($14). I didn’t swatch Ebony because it’s black, but I thought you might not have seen Coffee. It’s a dark cool brown.

And last but not least, there’s a new brush in the collection. The 286 is $30 and it’s like a duo-fibre 224. It’s a ponytail fluffy blending brush. Black-and-white fibers usually mean a more sheer application of color (for example, the 187 or 188 stippling brushes might be good blush brushes if you have a heavy hand). Speaking of the 187, it’s repromoted in this collection, at its regular price of $42.

Since Shu Uemura left the U.S., it’s hard to keep up with changes to their permanent line. Earlier this year, they relaunched their modular paletting system under the banner of “Color Atelier” (the word means workshop) — and I believe they reformulated their blush offering. We’ve got three digit numbers now (though M still means Matte and P still means Pearl).

Luckily, the magnificent Kate of Drivel About Frivol managed to swatch the new blushes in her travels through Asia. If you don’t already read Drivel about Frivol, it’s a GREAT (read: very dangerous) resource for swatches and “Face of the Day” photos of Asian brands.

I’ve heard that the new blushes are softer, creamier (they’re still powders), more pigmented, and longer lasting than the original blushes — though I haven’t tried one myself. The only Shu blush I own is M55 (which I got just before Shu left the U.S.), and it’s pretty pigmented. Click here to see previous blush swatches.
Kate says, “P light silver 005 and P light gold 010 are both sheer, with microshimmer and a very slightly gritty texture. P light pink 315 and P light peach 510 are both pigmented, silky, with a sheeny finish. 315 has a slight pearly pink/lilac iridescence while 510 gives a glowy neutral peach sheen. On skintones of NC/W15 and darker, they would both make beautiful, subtle highlighers.”

Unfortunately, Americans, the range of blushes you can buy is a much curtailed version of what was swatched here.

I got the chance to swatch Laura Mercier’s holiday collection, Moonlight. The color story is definitely non-traditional for a holiday collection. Are you happy to see something different? Is this what you’re in the mood for right now?

The collection includes three new eyeshadows — all limited edition. Pink Pearl is a slightly duochromey satin lilac (slight pink reflect). Crystal Beige is a high-shimmer warm rosy bronze. Deep Garnet is a satin/shimmer near-black red-purple-brown (with tiny red-purple shimmers). These are all Luster formula, each $22.

Orchid Shimmer is a new, limited edition cake liner (wet your brush with either water or Tightline Activator, then muddle the brush on the cake of powder. But once you’ve used Tightline Activator on the product, you cannot use it with water). It’s a nearly black purple, $22.

There are three holiday lipsticks and three holiday Lip Glaces. Evening Pink is new and limited edition, a bright, cool hibiscus-pink. Raspberry Sorbet is new but permanent, a deeper cool rose. Rose is a repromoted permanent shade, a light, warm pink.

The Lip Glaces are lipglosses with a doe’s foot wand and a sort of marshmellow scent. Rose is a repromoted permanent shade, a semi-sheer raspberry-pink (red-pink) with tiny sparkles. Bare Beam is a shimmery pink/brown. Nude Lilac is sheer lilac (purple-pink) with gold sparkles. Each of the six lipcolors is $22.

Of course, the piece of this collection that’s got everyone talking is the Rose Rendezvous highlighter. It’s a shimmery rose-gold beige, embossed with a gorgeous flower pattern. It was $42, limited edition (of course), and it sold out almost immediately. The good news is we have one for sale in the BeautyBloggers.org charity auction — and your winning bid goes straight to Doctors Without Borders.

And finally, there’s a new, limited edition nail polish in the collection. (It’s been a while since Laura put polish in a collection.) Twilight is a shimmery black-purple (red-purple), $18.

The Radiance primer isn’t specifically part of the holiday collection, but it is new. This addition to Laura’s primer lineup has a subtle, golden sheen. It’s $30 for 1.7 oz, the same price as all her other primers.

We had previously taken a look at NARS’ holiday sets; the weather has finally permitted me to finish swatching their “regular” holiday collection.

Arabian Nights is (as you might have surmised from the name) a night-series eyeshadow trio. The shadows are black-based with sparkle, and (in my humble opinion) perform better wet. I actually swatched this palette “backwards” from the way it appears in the compact, because the tester pan was in the unit upside down.

Swatched dry, the shades are sheer black with silver sparkle (I built up the dry swatch, and the black is prone to fallout), black with blue-purple sparkle, and sheer grey-black with a red-purple sparkle that tends to blow away. Swatched wet, the first shade is a charcoal-black with multicolored silver sparkle. The second is still black with blue-purple sparkle. And the third is grey-black with dense red-purple shimmer (the sparkle is smaller in this shade, so it translates into shimmer). The trio is $45, limited edition.

I talked to one of my favorite NARS associates about Arabian Nights. He said it’s his favorite piece of the collection, and lamented that swatching doesn’t really do it justice. I asked him to explain his devotion, and he said the shadows look like gemstones on the lid (which sounds quite lovely).

Ponderosa is a cream eyeshadow single. It’s cool, dark brown with gold shimmer (very pretty!) — $23, and limited edition.

Mandchourie is a powder eyeshadow duo ($33, permanent). It is fascinating: a complex green-grey-blue with shimmery gold tones, paired with a muted, faded, dusty, matte, semi-sheer navy-indigo blue.

There is also a happy assortment of holiday lips and nails. Joyous Red lipstick ($24, limited edition) is not exactly red. It’s a muted (slightly browned) coral/red, bricky on my lips. It’s great for the season, and not too dark for my skintone.

Albatross lipgloss ($24) is also limited edition. It’s a shimmering pale gold.

There are two limited edition nail polishes ($17). Space Odyssey (the color created for Fashion’s Night Out) is a cool silver foil (looks shimmery/slightly gritty but feels smooth). Endless Night is a sheer grape in one coat. The color is so dark that it turns black-plum (really black plum) in two.

And the holiday season introduces two new (and permanent) shades of the Larger Than Life eyeliners. These mechanical eyeliners are absolutely fantastic at staying put — they’re one of the few things I’ll trust on my lower lash line. Campo de Fiori is an antique gold shimmer. St. Marks Place is a low-shimmer bright blue-purple. (Check out the other LTL eyeliner shades here and here. They’re $23 each.)

And finally: the cheeks. Sin (powder blush, $27) is a repromote, a berry-wine with gold shimmer/sparkle. In a heavier swatch, you can see it’s actually pretty purple (red-grape, I’d call it).

Miss Liberty is new but permanent. It’s a “highlighting blush” (a.k.a. not a blush but a highlighter), a sheer peach with very fine silver sparkles. It’s also $27.

And finally, there’s a new Multiple stick (these can be used anywhere: lids, cheeks, or lips). And because “Orgasm” and “Deep Throat” weren’t scandalous enough, it’s called G-Spot. Sensibilities are different in Texas than they are in New York, and mostly I’ve heard G-Spot referred to as “the new one.”

G-Spot is blush-wine with a very subtle gold shimmer (my sales associate didn’t even realize it had shimmer ’til she saw it on my arm). It’s more red than Sin, a berry red. It’s a pretty, ruddy flush for cheeks and lips this winter, I definitely approve. Like all Multiples, G-Spot is $39 (and it’s permanent).

This entire collection is actually up for sale in the BeautyBloggers.org charity auction (and it’s currently going for WAY less than retail).

NARScosmetics.com is also offering free two-day shipping through the end of the year (and today only, they’re adding a free sample of Orgasm Illuminator to any cart).

One holiday collection I always look forward to: Armani’s. The theme this year is Art Deco, explored through metallic smoky eyes, a radiant complexion, and deep, lacquered lips.

First, Armani has created two limited edition three-color palettes. The first is Madreperla Harmony #1 (for face and eyes). You can use the three shades individually as eyeshadow, or blend them together as a face powder. The eyeshadows are softly shimmery/satin warm white, softly shimmery pale gold, and a satin pale khaki-gold. Together they make a gently shimmery pale gold highlighter (which my Armani sales associate likes, even on her African-American skintone. She focuses her brush on the lower half of the palette, because the “green” turns golden on deeper skintones).

This palette is sold as a regular black compact for $59, OR there’s a really exclusive edition with a mother-of-pearl lid. It’s a Saks exclusive, only 3,000 were made, and it’s $98.

The second palette is Madreperla Harmony #2, and though it’s “just” an eye palette, I wonder why it couldn’t be a face palette too. The eyeshadow shades are softly shimmery white, softly shimmery golden sand taupe, and a satin lavender. Together they make a silvery beige (especially if you stay out of the purple) that’s just barely frostier than the Harmony #1. This palette is only sold in the “classic” edition for $59.

There are three holiday Eyes to Kill Intense potted eyeshadows ($32). These are “damp powder,” loosely pressed, highly metallic eyeshadow, and they’re actually quite versatile. I swatched them at full volume, but they can be quite subtle when worn sheerly.

#17 is a cool, shimmering, sparkling silver. #18 is a shimmering, sparkling pale gold — and when I swatched it, I thought “this is my favorite”… until I swatched #19, a shimmering, sparkling paler gold, a white gold. It actually looks like 17 and 18 mixed together in the pot, a silver-gold mix.

And finally, there are four Gloss d’Armani shades ($28 each). Gloss d’Armani lipglosses are fairly sheer (I swatched these “heavily” to show the color, but they’re sheerer than they look here). They go on light and unsticky, then thicken on the lips for longer wear.

Beige 104 (beige?!?) is a russet brown-red. Pink 507 is mauve pink. Plum 603 is rum-raisin red-chocolate-brown. Plum 604 is the sheerest of the group, a blue-violet that my sales associate says is doing really well as a color-altering lipstick-topper.

You could bid on Madreperla palettes 1 and 2 in the BeautyBloggers.org charity auction (Harmony #1, Harmony #2).

Dior’s holiday collection is delightfully well edited — by which I mean both that it’s not overwhelmingly complicated, and that I like what they’ve put together.

There’s a new, limited edition eyeshadow quint, 554 Couture Golds ($59). The palette includes a shimmery white; a shimmery muted pumpkin/peach; a sparkly very pale gold; a sheer, dark, grey-brown-black matte; and a shimmery golden cocoa. This photo was taken on a partly cloudy day and I think that washed out the palette just a bit.

There are also four Rouge Dior lipsticks (each $32). I LOVE 841 Belle de Nuit. It’s a warm, hot red-orange-pink (hot coral) with gold shimmer. Winter makes me feel washed out (something about the angle of the light), and I love a pop of color on my lips to make me look alive/awake. Belle de Nuit is really perfect.

961 Nocturne is a lovely magenta-violet-pink with gold shimmers. 527 Versailles is visually confusing. It’s a berry-pink that reflects orange-gold shimmer… so the resulting swatch is warm. 217 Or Etoile is a sheer, shimmering, sparkling pale yellow (a topper for other lipsticks).

Because Dior’s display unit is modular, each counter had to fill some empty slots — and each counter I visited used something different. The Dillards counter decided to display the Shimmering Face Powder in Amber Diamond, which seems like an excellent choice for holiday (who can resist a highlighter at this time of year?).

Knowing how popular Amber Diamond is (and since I haven’t swatched it before), I included it with the collection — even though it’s a regular, permanent item.

DiorSkin Poudre Shimmer (Ultra Shimmering All Over Face Powder) comes in two shades: 001 Rose Diamond and 002 Amber Diamond (each $44). Amber Diamond is a peach-bronze-gold shimmer — and this is a heavy swatch.

The holiday nail polishes are $22, all limited edition. 651 Merveille is a warm, juicy, cherry red with subtle gold shimmer (counterpart to Belle de Nuit). 221 Or Divin is a frosty pale gold that reminds me of NARS Versailles. 871 Apparat is burgundy with gold shimmer. And 611 Exquis is fascinating: grey-green-brown with gold shimmer.

In hindsight, swatching Chanel’s holiday collection was a mistake. If I hadn’t swatched, I could have lived in blissful ignorance — instead I’m placing my Nordstrom.com order.

The holiday collection includes two limited edition eyeshadow singles ($28.50). 407 Blazing Gold is a slightly chunky shimmery yellow. 417 Beige Lamé is a nutmeg-tan satin with very tiny blue and pink sparkles.

There is one new eyeshadow duo ($42): 27 Noir-Ivoire, a satin charcoal-black paired with a gently shimmery wedding-dress-ivory-beige. I’m surprised that such a basic and sensible duo would be limited edition, but it is. Buy now or forever hold your peace.

The collection repromotes Crayon Kohl pencil eyeliner in Noir (so I swatched it; $28). There’s also a limited edition Ligne Extreme liquid liner in 307 Or ($32). It’s a very yellow gold metallic shade with a fine brush applicator.

587 Rouge Carat nail polish ($25) is a rose-red with fuchsia pink shimmer — also limited edition.

Of course the signature piece of the collection is an ornately embossed highlighting powder: Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel. It is lovely, but at $72, I wasn’t prepared to buy it for looks alone. And then I swatched it.

I can’t think of another powder that’s so amazingly pearly. It’s white that’s simultaneously pink and gold. It’s really a remarkable shade.

I don’t totally understand Poudre Universelle Libre (Natural Finish Loose Powder) Féérie ($52). It’s a translucent powder with tiny pink and gold sparkles. It seems risky to put this all over your face.

And then the Tissages blush in Brun Rose swept me off my feet. It’s a slightly burned matte coral that — for me — is a must-have. All Tissages blushes are $45.

If you needed proof that life isn’t fair, all three of these powders — even the blush — are limited edition.
I swatched the lips in what I felt was a sensible color order, so the formulas are all mixed up.

You guessed it: everything on this arm is ALSO limited edition.

Famous (207) is a Rouge Allure lipstick ($32). It’s a pink-red with subtle pink sparkles.

Dragon (75) is a Rouge Allure Laque (full coverage lipgloss, $32). It’s a cool, deep, sexy red with a shine/slight shimmer. This is a repromoted color (see a swatch from its 2009 debut), but soon to be discontinued — which has caused a bit of a frenzy. I find Dragon too cool, too blue-red for me.

Triomphal (517) is a Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss ($32). Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss is a pigmented-but-sheer formula compared to Laque’s full coverage, liquid-lipstick finish. (Click here for swatches from Extrait de Gloss’s debut, plus a lip-swatch of EdG in Exces.) Compared to Dragon, Triomphal is a sheerer cherry pink-red with pink sparkles.

Enivrée (197) is a Rouge Allure lipstick ($32), a sheer warm pink with pink sparkles.

Empire (707) is a Rouge Allure Laque ($32), a medium warm rose with gold sparkles.

Sweet Beige (297) is a Glossimer ($28.50), a muted/greyed beige-pink with gold sparkles.

Sparkle d’Or (307) is also a Glossimer ($28.50); clear with tiny gold sparkles.

There should be one more Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss: nude-beige Discretion. I checked four counters and no one had received tester or product; they said the shade was MIA nationwide. Since Chanel’s website lists permanent shade Insouciance instead, I guess Discretion isn’t coming.
