Guest Swatcher: Sleek Curacao and Oh So Special

Hello, readers! I'm very pleased (chuffed?) to be able to share with you another installment of Sleek palette swatches, graciously provided by Nicole of Beauty-Free (a blog that tracks duty-free beauty exclusives in airports around the world). To view the rest of the palettes swatched-so-far, click here. Curaçao and Oh So Special are both new additions to the Sleek lineup. Nicole reports that Curaçao palette is chalkier than most, and therefore not her favorite (well, actually she said "favou...

Guest Swatcher: Oh My Gosh mini nail polish

Readers, I am so excited about today's guest swatches. Katja Moikjaer writes the fabulous Danish blog Pudderdaaserne.dk (but with a little help from Google Translate, we can read anything these days, can't we?). Katja and I got to talking about makeup recently, and she offered to swatch some items from Danish makeup company Gosh (woo!). I've had limited experience with Gosh (they're trickling into the U.S.), but I've loved what I've managed to get — Soft'N Shine lipsticks and Velvet Touch Wat...

Guest Swatcher: NYX Nude on Nude Palette

I obviously haven't been spending enough time in Ulta, because this little gem from NYX totally escaped my attention. Luckily Kim scooped it up and very kindly swatched it for us. She describes NYX's "Nude on Nude" as their take on Urban Decay's Naked palette, and I have to say, I saw the resemblance immediately. The NYX palette retails for $25 — and between the price and the colors, I think I might like it better than Urban Decay's. Click here to see swatches from NYX's previous "Nude on Nud...

Guest Swatcher: Burberry Spring 2011

Readers, it is a privilege and a pleasure to share with you guest swatches from Sabrina of the Beauty Look Book, who so kindly photographed some of the newer pieces of the still-elusive Burberry makeup line. It's frustrating that Burberry and Nordstrom launched this line so hard (strong presence in the magazines), but still sell from just five brick-and-mortar stores. Sabrina is NC30 on MAC's scale (approaching NC35 as she gets more tan in summer) and she has olive undertones. She says the...

Guest Swatcher: Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow

Many thanks to Adina from KraseyBeauty, who's back today with guest swatches of her personal Make Up For Ever eyeshadow collection. Make Up For Ever's pressed eyeshadows have been on my to-swatch list for a while now. They just have SO MANY colors (and Sephora carries only a selection). I believe MUFE's eyeshadows also do double duty as blushes. Their pressed eyeshadows and blushes are the same size and same price ($19). Looking at Sephora's eyeshadow offering and blush offering, almost all t...

Guest Swatcher: NARS Eyeshadow

We're still operating under heavy cloud cover in Dallas; luckily Adina from KraseyBeauty is picking up the slack, volunteering these guest swatches of her personal NARS eyeshadow collection — including a few shades that are no longer available. (I am looking forward to swatching NARS' complete eyeshadow collection one of these days, so I can finally complete my list of which ones I truly need!). Let's start with the singles (currently $23 each; at the moment, NARScosmetics.com is offering fr...

Guest Swatcher: Dior Aloha

I haven't yet made it over to Saks to check out Dior's summer nail polishes, Aloha and Paradise (Paradise is exclusive to Saks, and somehow my Nordstrom didn't get a tester of Aloha). As I mentioned in my Dior Summer post, these polishes are not only ridiculously sexy for summer, they're also a great buy, because Dior has packaged each shade with a full-sized topcoat (and the bundle is $26; individual Dior polishes are $21). Luckily, the ever-amazing Kristina volunteered to share her swatche...

Guest Swatcher: Lip Balm

You guys have met my friend Nicole once already; she was the gorgeous model demonstrating Bobbi Brown's new Bikini Pink Rich Lip Color. Nicole has fantastic taste in skincare and makeup, a skeptical-and-scientific approach to product claims, and she's willing to test drive anything in the name of makeup and truth. She and I recently discovered we also share a lip balm addiction (and we bonded over VMV Hypoallergenics' Armada Lip Balm). Since she's tried almost everything out there, I asked her i...

Guest Swatcher: Chanel Rose Tourbillon

Very special thanks to roving reporter glossedup, who picked up Chanel Joues Contraste blush 65 Rose Tourbillon (an Asian exclusive) on her travels and very graciously sent in swatches. She says: Rose Tourbillion is a glowy, cool, saturated, medium-to-deep raspberry-pink with no discernible shimmer on the cheek. I use a stippling (skunk) brush, and I get "dolly" pink cheeks. I'd say it's also more pigmented than the average European JC. Candy photographed a little dark in the swatch, but ...

Guest Swatcher: Lancome L’Absolu Nu Sneak Peek

As an ardent fan of Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge lipsticks, I am so looking forward to checking out their not-yet-released L'Absolu Nu formula. I'm not sure whether we can expect to see these lipsticks in the summer or fall, but luckily Nicole of Beauty-Free has got a sneak peek. She said that the new formula is lighter and slightly more sheer than L'Absolu Rouge. She also reports that Lancome describes it is a "lip-caring lipstick," which features a pigment called Opti-Carmin (to enhance the lip...

Guest Swatcher: OPI Katy Perry Collection

I didn't jump on the Black Shatter bandwagon right away, but after reading this fantastic guest review and swatches by Soaper1, I'm reconsidering. OPI's recent collaboration with Katy Perry produced four polishes: The One that Got Away, Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night, and Not Like the Movies. Black Shatter was released simultaneously (overlapping the Katy Perry and Serena Williams Glam Slam collections). And I thought Black Shatter wasn't going to be a must-have. As it turns out, I love it, a...

Guest Swatcher: Knockout Cosmetics Liberty

I can always count on Soaper1 to keep me informed of important events in the world of nail polish. Knockout Cosmetics is a new-to-me brand, but when Soaper1 sent swatches, I was intrigued by their all-matte aesthetic. The finish of her nails is so appealingly West Elm/Pottery Barn, don't you think? Here's her review: I've wanted to try Knockout polishes for at least two years, but the price tag always stood in my way (they retail for $19 each, available at koknockout.com and other etailers). La...

Guest Swatcher: OPI Black Shatter

I remember wearing "crackle" nail polish back in high school. Admittedly, it's been a really long time since then, but I thought I remembered applying my crackle to a wet base color.  Everyone I've spoken to says that's not right: crackle polishes have to be applied on top of dry polish to get the right effect. Here's Soaper1's review of OPI Black Shatter. Click here to go back to her review of the Sally Hansen Effects. After successfully applying Sally Hansen Effects to one nail, I suddenl...

Guest Swatcher: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

Soaper1 just sent an awesome combination review of Sally Hansen's new Salon Effects and OPI Black Shatter. Since they're entirely different products, I thought I'd break them into two posts. Click here to read her review of Black Shatter. First up: Sally Hansen Salon Effects. I just learned about these and I am instantly enamored! Doesn't that pattern look like Liberty of London? I have to try this for myself. Here's Soaper1's review: I've got a combo swatch picture for you today (this h...

Guest Swatcher: NYX Eyeshadow Singles

Readers, prepare to be amazed. Jette has not only swatched 212 NYX eyeshadow singles (dang!), but she very graciously offered to let me repost her photos here. It can be well nigh impossible to track down NYX testers, and the number of shades is... alarming. It is incredible to see these swatched all together — I know I've added a bunch to my wishlist thanks to her. Check out her YouTube channel, for this and other makeup videos.
