MAC Peacocky on NC35

This past weekend I had the great pleasure of hanging out (shopping, talking, swatching) with Jennifer of Em Just Like You. I am slowly learning how different products look on different skintones. It's a subject that fascinates me (and one I wish I knew more about), so it was a real treat to swatch with Jennifer. She's Vietnamese-American, and she wears NC35 in MAC Studio Fix, (C4 in Studio Fix Powder), Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Compact in Warm Natural 4.5, and Lancome Teinte Miracle in 7N. Cli...

Guest Swatcher: Sleek Jewels Palette

I have a whole slew of Sleek Palette swatches to show you (graciously provided by Becca of Subtle Like a Tank). So I thought we'd start with one you haven't seen yet on this blog: Jewels. Living up to its name, Jewels offers a rich selection of jeweltones for the eyes. Like the brand's other palettes in this series, the quality and pigmentation looks excellent. Sleek iDivine palettes can be used wet or dry, and cost about $10.

Guest Swatcher: OPI Brisbane Bronze

Here's a classic OPI shade, swatched by the exceedingly lovely Soaper1. I feel like we rarely talk about permanent nail polish shades, but it's such a relief when you don't have to scramble to hunt one down. OPI polishes retails for $8.50. OPI Brisbane Bronze is a shimmery, metallic rose. I’ve picked up this polish dozens of times at various retailers, and I’ve always put it back down. Something about it intrigues me, but it’s just not my kind of color. OPI recently offered a free set of ...

Guest Swatcher: Sleek Pout Polish

Tremendous thanks to the amazing Becca of Subtle Like a Tank (definitely check out her blog — unlike me, she is daringly unafraid of bold color). She very graciously volunteered swatches of her own Sleek collection to add to the Sleek swatch library. She has swatches of many (possibly all) of the Sleek palettes — and they are lovely.  But I wanted to start with her swatches of a product I am learning about for the first time: Pout Polish.  According to Becca, these potted balm/glosses are s...

Guest Swatcher: China Glaze Jitterbug

Jitterbug was part of China Glaze's recent Vintage Vixen collection (click here to see the full collection, plus links to Soaper1's swatches of the other shades). Though I think this gorgeous steel grey foil is too cool for my hands, I really like the way it looks on Soaper1. That silver microglitter is sexy. (And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there is a pair of Vintage Vixen sets up for auction on BeautyBloggers.org.)

Guest Swatcher: Orly Space Cadet

Dang, this polish is STUNNING. I was going to go pick one up at Ulta... but maybe I'll just bid at BeautyBloggers.org instead... Swatches and review by Soaper1: Space Cadet is part of Orly's Fall 2010 Cosmic Fx collection. I had high hopes for this collection when I started seeing promo pictures, and this polish does not disappoint. It's a glittery, sparkly, foil-finish duochrome. The base is purple and it has a green and gold flash. It is awesome. Application and wear were pretty good....

Guest Swatcher: Sleek Acid

Several of you yesterday said, "but what about the Sleek Acid palette?" Ha! Nicole of Beauty-Free is one step ahead of you. The Acid palette is quite psychedelic.  Not unusable, but definitely "fun." Sleek is a drugstore brand in England, prized for their excellent quality and low prices. These palettes are $10 (£5.99), and Nicole says you can use them wet or dry.

Guest Swatcher: Sleek Original

Many thanks to the fabulous Nicole of Beauty-Free (a blog that tracks duty-free beauty exclusives). She's been diligently reporting on Sleek's famous eyeshadow palettes — and I think we're pretty close to having the entire set swatched. Sleek is a drugstore brand in England, prized for their excellent quality and low prices. These palettes are $10 (£5.99), and Nicole says you can use them wet or dry.

Guest Swatcher: Sally Hansen Mystic Lilac

Another fabulous drugstore find by Soaper1. I really can't think of another polish that has this color combination. Here's Soaper1's review: I recently discovered a new display of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes, and Mystic Lilac quickly caught my eye. Mystic Lilac is a muted, greyed purple with teal microglitter. It's definitely unique to my collection, though I thought it was a little sheer. I did three coats (and one coat of Poshe topcoat); I should have done four coats of color. Xtreme...

Guest Swatcher: Wet N Wild Red Tape

Proof you don't have to spend a lot on a great manicure: another gorgeous red from Soaper1. I confess, I haven't tried much from Wet n Wild's nail polish line, but for $2, how could I go wrong? Wet n Wild recently released new shades in the Megalast line. The polishes are toluene, phthalate, and formaldehyde free. They retail for $1.99 and are sold at many retailers (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.). Their site, wnwbeauty.com, does have a store locator. This is Red Tape. I'd consider the finish of...

Guest Swatcher: Confetti My Favorite Martian

I'd seen the Confetti brand appear in my local CVS, but decided I couldn't buy until I'd heard Soaper1's report. Even though yellow-greens aren't my favorite, she does make this one look pretty great. Confetti is a relatively new line of polishes carried by CVS. They retail for $1.99, and each bottle contains .37 fl oz (most brands' bottles are .5 fl oz). They're made in the USA and are free of DBP, toluene and formaldehyde. The line offers a broad range of colors and finishes, but since I c...

Guest Swatcher: Konad with Nina Out of the Blue and China Glaze OMG

Check out this fun manicure from Soaper1. This woman is so endlessly creative with her nails. I had some extra time to do a manicure one night, and when that happens, I like to stamp my nails. I’d seen some manicures that used China Glaze OMG for an image stamp. I’ve used this polish as a regular manicure before, and the formula is a bit thin. Most great stamping polishes are thick and opaque, so I wouldn't have thought to reach for OMG on my own, but it works beautifully. The base fo...

Guest Swatcher: LORAC Multi-Platinum Palette

I am thrilled to present another fantastic guest swatch of an excellent brand by an amazing blogger. KaiserMimiVII of Makeup Withdrawal sent over these jawdropping swatches of the LORAC Multi-Platinum palette, which I will definitely be checking out on my next visit to Sephora. Here's her review: LORAC Multi-Platinum is a Sephora-exclusive palette that's been around for a while. It's priced at $37, with six shadows and a blush. The shadows are Rockstar (matte white with sparkles), Serenity (fr...

Guest Swatcher: Urban Decay Black Palette

Special thanks to Jen (who previously guest-swatched Stila's Color Wheel palette) for also swatching the Urban Decay Black palette. She says: These colors are awesome, so buttery soft and deep-dark. A few remind me of the MAC Style Black mineralize shadows, so this palette could be good for people who couldn't locate those. The Black palette is $36, and comes with a mini 24/7 eyeliner in Zero and a mini Primer Potion in Eden.

Guest Swatcher: Clarins 230

In the world of nail polish, Clarins 230 is the holy grail. You can spend your life searching for it, and only the pure of heart can behold it with waking eyes. After a long and arduous quest, Soaper1 recently acquired a bottle. So you'll have to excuse us for wanting to show you a million pictures — a chance like this doesn't come around too often. Clarins 230 is so elusive that it has earned the nickname "unicorn pee." Often times, hard-to-find items don't live up to the hype. Not so for 230....
