Guest Swatcher: OPI Brisbane Bronze

Here's a classic OPI shade, swatched by the exceedingly lovely Soaper1. I feel like we rarely talk about permanent nail polish shades, but it's such a relief when you don't have to scramble to hunt one down. OPI polishes retails for $8.50. OPI Brisbane Bronze is a shimmery, metallic rose. I’ve picked up this polish dozens of times at various retailers, and I’ve always put it back down. Something about it intrigues me, but it’s just not my kind of color. OPI recently offered a free set of ...

Guest Swatcher: China Glaze Jitterbug

Jitterbug was part of China Glaze's recent Vintage Vixen collection (click here to see the full collection, plus links to Soaper1's swatches of the other shades). Though I think this gorgeous steel grey foil is too cool for my hands, I really like the way it looks on Soaper1. That silver microglitter is sexy. (And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there is a pair of Vintage Vixen sets up for auction on BeautyBloggers.org.)

Guest Swatcher: Orly Space Cadet

Dang, this polish is STUNNING. I was going to go pick one up at Ulta... but maybe I'll just bid at BeautyBloggers.org instead... Swatches and review by Soaper1: Space Cadet is part of Orly's Fall 2010 Cosmic Fx collection. I had high hopes for this collection when I started seeing promo pictures, and this polish does not disappoint. It's a glittery, sparkly, foil-finish duochrome. The base is purple and it has a green and gold flash. It is awesome. Application and wear were pretty good....

Guest Swatcher: Sally Hansen Mystic Lilac

Another fabulous drugstore find by Soaper1. I really can't think of another polish that has this color combination. Here's Soaper1's review: I recently discovered a new display of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes, and Mystic Lilac quickly caught my eye. Mystic Lilac is a muted, greyed purple with teal microglitter. It's definitely unique to my collection, though I thought it was a little sheer. I did three coats (and one coat of Poshe topcoat); I should have done four coats of color. Xtreme...

Guest Swatcher: Wet N Wild Red Tape

Proof you don't have to spend a lot on a great manicure: another gorgeous red from Soaper1. I confess, I haven't tried much from Wet n Wild's nail polish line, but for $2, how could I go wrong? Wet n Wild recently released new shades in the Megalast line. The polishes are toluene, phthalate, and formaldehyde free. They retail for $1.99 and are sold at many retailers (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.). Their site, wnwbeauty.com, does have a store locator. This is Red Tape. I'd consider the finish of...

Guest Swatcher: Confetti My Favorite Martian

I'd seen the Confetti brand appear in my local CVS, but decided I couldn't buy until I'd heard Soaper1's report. Even though yellow-greens aren't my favorite, she does make this one look pretty great. Confetti is a relatively new line of polishes carried by CVS. They retail for $1.99, and each bottle contains .37 fl oz (most brands' bottles are .5 fl oz). They're made in the USA and are free of DBP, toluene and formaldehyde. The line offers a broad range of colors and finishes, but since I c...

Guest Swatcher: Konad with Nina Out of the Blue and China Glaze OMG

Check out this fun manicure from Soaper1. This woman is so endlessly creative with her nails. I had some extra time to do a manicure one night, and when that happens, I like to stamp my nails. I’d seen some manicures that used China Glaze OMG for an image stamp. I’ve used this polish as a regular manicure before, and the formula is a bit thin. Most great stamping polishes are thick and opaque, so I wouldn't have thought to reach for OMG on my own, but it works beautifully. The base fo...

Look at My Nails! Essie Little Brown Dress

Essie's winter collection is already on shelves at my local Ulta, but I'm still kvelling over their fall collection. On my nails right now: Little Brown Dress. The fall collection included two so-dark-they're-almost-black vamps: brown Little Brown Dress and plum Velvet Voyeur. Both are outrageously shiny (though you know I can't get enough topcoat. I couldn't resist my usual Seche Vite + Color Club Vivid combination). Hey, I can see my reflection in my nails! I love deep dark colors on the...

Guest Swatcher: Clarins 230

In the world of nail polish, Clarins 230 is the holy grail. You can spend your life searching for it, and only the pure of heart can behold it with waking eyes. After a long and arduous quest, Soaper1 recently acquired a bottle. So you'll have to excuse us for wanting to show you a million pictures — a chance like this doesn't come around too often. Clarins 230 is so elusive that it has earned the nickname "unicorn pee." Often times, hard-to-find items don't live up to the hype. Not so for 230....

Guest Swatcher: OPI Vodka and Caviar

Everyone needs at least one perfect, go-to red (or in my case... nevermind, I won't count them). Soaper1 just found hers, and I have to say, it does look great on her. She says Vodka & Caviar has a slightly jelly finish; she painted three coats, with one coat of Poshe topcoat.

Guest Swatcher: Estee Lauder Extravagant Night

Readers, I'm delighted to share with you some fantastic guest nail-swatches of Estee Lauder's holiday Extravagant Night nail polish (click here for my arm-swatches of the collection). These photos and review were provided by the amazing Kristina of Sasquatch Swatch — and the color is positively magical on her fingers. As always, you can click the images to view at full size. Extravagant Night is my first Estee Lauder nail polish, so I didn't really have any expectations when it came to the bru...

Guest Swatcher: Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne

A new collection from RBL is always cause for excitement, and I've been scouring the internet for swatches from the moment I heard about this one. Luckily, Soaper1 captured this fabulous photo of Anne. Here are her thoughts on the collection: Rescue Beauty recently released their fall collection: Housewives of Tudor England. The collection includes Catherine, Catherine H. (confusing!), Jane, and Anne. Catherine is royal purple with a fine pewter sheen and hints of blue and fuchsia shimmer. C...

Guest Swatcher: Halloween Manicures

Soaper1 has perfect nails, flawless application technique, a steady hand for konading, and she does the cutest seasonal manicures. She's been working on her Halloween manicures all month, but she picked a few favorites to share. (I really don't know how she managed to take that glow-in-the-dark picture; I think my camera would have refused.) My kids love holiday manicures, and one of my daughters especially likes glow-in-the-dark polishes. The blue manicure is OPI Boo Berry (glows in the da...

Look at My Nails! BB Couture Blind Love

It was actually Blind Love I was looking for when I wound up discovering my little gold nail polish "problem." Blind Love is a very cool gold — and supposedly a dupe for Chanel's Kaleidoscope (which I don't own). BB Couture's formula is big-three-free and "4-in-1" (basecoat, nail strengthener, color, and topcoat). Of course I can't bring myself to do a manicure without Seche Rebuild (a silver bullet for my peely nails), Seche Vite topcoat, and Color Club's Vivid color intensifying topcoat. ...

Guest Swatcher: Chanel Strong and Steel

Many, many thanks to Soaper1 for tracking down and swatching Chanel's limited edition "Soho" polishes. As always, her perfect capture of the sparkle in Strong makes me want a polish I didn't know I needed. Chanel's grand reopening of their boutique in Soho coincided with New York's Fashion Night Out (September 10). To commemorate the event, they released the limited edition Soho collection, which included nail polishes Steel and Strong. Strong is a dark eggplant with shimmer. Steel is a very d...
