Protecting my flimsy nails and keeping myself amused with a new manicure: NCLA Venice Beach Vixen (click here to see arm swatches of all the NCLA polishes).
This polish is actually a little more muted than I thought it would be (based on the bottle, and the photo on NCLA’s website). In sunlight, it’s artificial blueberry. Like maybe the color of Jelly Belly blueberry jellybeans. Or Facebook’s toolbar. In indoor lighting, it’s darker, blueberry-navy — almost conservative, actually.

And this was bound to happen. I started off playing with jewelry (for nail polish photo shoots) in Charlotte Russe. Then I moved up to Nordstrom’s costume jewelry (by the juniors department). Now I’m hitting the harder stuff… Nordstrom’s designer jewelry. Oy.

Fortunately, NCLA polishes are just $16 each.

These photos bring to my mind Estee Lauder’s Wild Blue nail polish (remember that?)- I realize these are direct sunlight pix but the blue looks to be almost the exact one of Estee’s Limited Edition. Thank you for this, Karla. Your hands are soooo beautiful. xoxo Beth in Pgh
Hey Beth! The same thought actually occurred to me as I was writing this post, but I think the sunlight photo makes them look more similar than they are.
The NCLA polish is definitely deeper/darker. Here’s a swatch of the Lauder to compare: http://karlasugar.net/2011/04/estee-lauder-wild-blue/
Maybe I should do a side by side?
