At this time last year (just before the start of Mad Men’s fifth season), Estee Lauder unveiled a capsule collection of retro cosmetics: a limited edition cream blush and lipstick, which would have been right at home on the show’s always-historically-accurate set.
Now, in honor of season 6 (which starts April 7th) comes Estee Lauder’s second Mad Men collection.
The collection contains a blush compact ($50), but this year’s formula (“See-Thru”) is a powder, so it’s less dewy than last year’s “Creme Rouge.” The shade, Light Show, is a sheer, warm pink with silver shimmer. The compact is lovely, heavy and luxurious, featuring the collection’s paisley print in enamel.
The lipstick, Pinkadelic ($30), is a warm, medium pink. It’s wearable, “inspired by” the 60s, rather than a literal interpretation. The formula, Rich, Rich Lipstick, borrows its name (but not the precise formulation) from one of Lauder’s products from that period. Pinkadelic has a satin finish, and Lauder’s traditional fig scent.
The nail polish, Pink Paisley ($24), is a frosty baby pink. It’s so sweet I want to tough it up with a black accent nail, or a black-tipped funky french manicure. This polish is a little uneven in two coats; you may need three.
All three items are limited edition.

Now, last year’s lipstick, Cherry, attracted a fair amount of attention for its diminutive size (.07 oz, half the size of a regular Estee Lauder lipstick). Though Pinkadelic comes in a slightly smaller-than-usual case, it contains a full .13 oz of lipstick.
The collection is available at Nordstrom
and EsteeLauder.com (both of which offer free shipping at any price), as well as Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales (which offer free shipping at $50).

I so need these - sadly, they’re way out of my price range. They’re collector’s items, though - I don’t see anything so special in them, but I loooove Mad Men
Thanks for the review Karla! I’ve been waiting for quality swatches of these. Do you think this year’s compact is a ‘must have’?
Yay! I’m so glad you’re back! I was just wondering what the Pink Paisley nail polish looked like, and google let me know you were back in full effect!
Love the packaging, but not wowed with the colors.
Hello Karla! So happy and excited that you’ve returned! This is a fantastic blog that is so much more than swatches. I just wanted to express my humble gratitude for taking your time to write this. As for the products, I’m surprised they didn’t do a matching polish. The collection looks stellar, though: grown-up, concise, with wickedly awesome packaging.
Karla, I adore the look of this year’s MM collection, but was so disappointed that it didn’t work for me. Just too sheer to justify adding to my already huge stash of product. And I was so ready to plunk down the $ for that lipstick & gorgeous compact, sigh.
