Revlon Lip Butters

Revlon has a new lipstick out, and it’s taking the makeup-loving world by storm. Even confirmed Chanel-acolytes and Dior-loyalists are stopping by their CVSes to check these out. I’ve been scouring the internet for swatches, trying to choose the one-or-two I would pick up in a buy-one-get-one… and by a stroke of magnificent good fortune, Revlon gave me the opportunity to swatch all of them. Nothing could have made me happier.

The Lip Butters go on with a delicious heavy-balm feeling, though I would say they’re not actively moisturizing (they don’t leave my lips less dry/more hydrated afterwards). They’re vanilla-scented, with a sheer stain of color and the soft shine of a balm. The lightest colors are more or less invisible on my lips. The most pigmented shades are still sheer and stainlike. I might liken them to Chantecaille’s Lip Chics or Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine.
Revlon, Lip Butters, swatches, Sugar Frosting, Creme Brulee, Creamsicle, Peach Parfait, Tutti Frutti, Candy Apple, Cherry Tart, Red Velvet, Fig Jam, Brown Sugar, Karla Sugar, KarlaSugar
Sugar Frosting is very sheer frozen pale pink with tiny, invisible shimmers. Creme Brulee is sheer warm tan. Creamsicle is sheer, very pale warm pink. Peach Parfait (the only real name mismatch for me) is a rose-guava-pink with gold sparkles. I LOVE Tutti Frutti. Sheer orange lipsticks have the most delightful way of melding with one’s natural lip color to create a perfectly gorgeous, very warm pink — my favorite version of “my lips but better.” Lovers of Guerlain’s Serie Noir Rouge G 45 Orange Euphorique and NARS Wonder lipgloss, you need this lipstick.

Candy Apple is another favorite, a bright warm red. Cherry Tart is a cooler cherry pink-red with very subtle sparkles. Red Velvet is deeper violet-red (a very good interpretation of Red Velvet cake, actually). Fig Jam is fig brown, a reddish caramel. Brown Sugar is a softer, warm, nude pinked-brown with shimmer.
Revlon, Lip Butters, swatches, Cupcake, Gumdrop, Cotton Candy, Strawberry Shortcake, Macaroon, Sweet Tart, Lollipop, Raspberry Pie, Berry Smoothie, Sugar Plum, Pink Truffle, KarlaSugar, Karla Sugar
Cupcake is sheer, Nicki-Minaj blue-pink. Gumdrop is pale sheer lilac. Cotton Candy is pale sheer cool pink that’s just a touch warmer — it has gold shimmers. Strawberry Shortcake is a brighter, pinker, more intense cool bubblegum pink (not so blue, not so purple as the three preceeding shades). Macaroon is actually a UK-exclusive, a muted strawberry jam. I’m SO grateful that Revlon gave me the opportunity to swatch it. It gives my lips a ruddy color. Sweet Tart is bright cool pink (the most truly pink of all the Lip Butters). Lollipop is violet-pink with blue sparkles. Raspberry Pie is fuchsia-rose. Berry Smoothie is sheer, cool, violet-rose-pink with pink sparkles. Sugar Plum is a slightly more browned, more muted, more natural mauve pink. Pink Truffle is browner still, a slightly mauvey, brownie pink.

Revlon Lip Butters are about $7.50 each. Have you tried them? Are you in love?

Can you believe that just last night I was wondering if you would swatch these, omg?? I bought these lipsticks online from the US because they’re not available overseas yet. I really do love them, but wish they didn’t have to be reapplied every 2 hours.

  • Tina says:

I’m in love with these. I started with 2 and now have 9. Tutti Frutti was an unexpected favorite. I usually don’t do oranges, but for whatever reason I decided to give this shade a go and am SO glad I did. I think I like these better than my Rouge Coco Shines.

I just bought one of these on Friday when I was doing some last-minute shopping at Target. I needed a “me” treat. I really didn’t have high hopes; figured they’d be some crazy-obnoxious flavor or something, because I hadn’t read any reviews on them prior to purchasing, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try! I am in love! I’m pretty sure I bought Pink Truffle, and now I am sure I will be scooping these up whenever various drugstores have Revlon on sale. So impressed!!!

  • Stella says:

You always have the best swatches! I’m not totally in love but may pick one or two more after seeing your swatches. ;)

  • How funny – I saw Tutti Frutti and thought ‘Yum!’ then you mentioned Guerlain’s Orange Euphorique, which I’ve recently posted up as one of my 2011 favourites!

    xxx

I LOVE these! I tried one, and went back and bought one in every color! I use them everyday, so addicting. :) Great swatches…

I really don’t like these. If I didn’t have a ton of Chanel Coco Rouge Shines (aka I hadn’t tried that formula), I would probably think these are perfectly nice. As it is, yuck.

My first problem is with the formula. As you mentioned, it isn’t moisturizing. It’s also slightly thick and tacky. You can feel the shimmer when you rub your lips together (it’s not painful, but it is noticeable). Yet, it lasts no longer than the lovely, slide-y, moisturizing CRS.

Second, is the packaging. The bullet is not secure in the plastic tube. Therefore, whenever I use the Lip Butter, product rubs off and collect on the back of the case. This never happens with the CRS.

For the price difference, I suppose these are a viable alternative. But for people who can afford to splurge, I don’t see why these have gained traction. There are a ton of sheer lipsticks that have come out this year with better formulas and packaging.

I have Creme Brulee, Lollipop and Sugar Plum. I like them but I wish they had SPF.

  • Tracy says:

Thanj you SO much for swatching these! i’ve gone hunting for them multiple times and have had the hardest time deciding and finding swatches to help. Some look so dark in the tube, it’s hard to figure out how they would look sheered out, like sugar plum.

  • Chris says:

    I must have Brown Sugar!

  • Julia Arenas says:

I’m liking the look of Sugar Plum, Peach Parfait, Creme Brulee, Cotton Candy, Berry Smoothie, and Pink Truffle :) And I feel horrid that I live so far away from Revlon U.S.

I’m hoping that a friend of my Aunt’s is coming home from the U.S. before new year with my Revlon Lip Butter requests…hopefully…crossed fingers…

  • Louise says:

Best swatches of this product that I’ve seen! I can’t believe that I have 12 of these…. yikes! I haven’t seen ‘Macaroon’ ANYWHERE! It looks like a perfect color.

  • Liz K says:

I have 11 of these…I LOVE them, especially the darker/more pigmented shades.

I have not seen macaroon anywhere though??? weird. Now I want that too lol

  • Nadine says:

i cannot find the macaroon one, it´s not on the revlon website either…
everyone is saying there are 20 shades but you have 21, is that some kind of special color?

  • KarlaSugar says:

AHA! I just heard back from Revlon. Apparently Macaroon is a UK-exclusive color. Now I feel even luckier that they sent me one to swatch.

Jennifer, I do know what you mean about product rubbing off on the back of the inside of the tube.

  • Erin says:

I’ve bought 3 in the last few weeks. Pink Truffle is my new go-to everyday lip color. Sugar Plum is my new favorite mauvey pink. – perfect for work. And Red Velvet is my new dramatic deep red….what I wore for Christmas. Love them all!

I too am curious about the macaroon shade…never seen it.

  • Sunny says:

I’ve been snatching up the lip butters wherever I go. Only $5.79 at Harmons! I have 7 lip butters right now, gosh macaroon does look lovely.

  • Jeannie says:

    Ah! I need Macaroon! I wish it wasn’t a UK-exclusive :(

  • Cait says:

I’ve been scouring the internet for swatches trying to decide what to buy. Thank you so much for swatching these!

I have strawberry shortcake, berry smoothie, sugar plum, pink truffle, and sweet tart. I’m still on the look out for cherry tart, red velvet, and creme brulee. :D On my lips I find these to be as moisturizing as a balm. They look so natural on the lips, not heavy or cakey at all.

  • great swatches! think i’ll get fig jam for sure :D

  • Jam says:

I bought my shade “fig jam” today after seeing this article the other day. I’m not the biggest fan of drugstore lipstick mainly because there are no testers around. But this article showed how sheer they are & I made a blind leap and got fig jam.

Super flattering shades….seems like a great inexpensive buy to try the more daring shades (red, orange, super pink). It’s a good buy…I can see this becoming a cult fave

  • JoElla says:

I love these! And if you are lucky enough to have an HEB grocery store near you, they have a 3.00 off face and lips coupon right now!

This is the second time they are offering this coupon, and I scooped up a lot of them dirt cheap.

  • AhCapp says:

Hiya, thank you for such wonderful swatches! We don’t have these beauties here in Singapore so I bought 10 of them on eBay a few weeks back. Been using them ever since. My favorite is Tuffi frutti. I’m so scared of finishing it up that I keep on using other colors.

Out of my 10 lipsticks, only my candy apple is rubbing on the inside of the tube, and it’s damaging my poor lipstick! :(

Now macaroon is a gorgeous color! How am I going to get it if it’s exclusive to UK?

  • AhCappzarawy says:

Woops, my favorite is peach parfait! Now I think I need to get that Tuffi fruitti soon…

  • Lars says:

I love how clear and detailed your swatches are! These lip butters look great.

  • I wore Strawberry Shortcake for the first time today and went out and bought Peach Parfait. If the darker shades are more sheer I’ll probably pick some of those up later too. I’m happily surprised.

  • Cherlene says:

Just ordered Tutti Frutti and Candy Apple from Ulta! Crossing fingers that I’ll not have any problems with the packaging. Anyway, I’m a poor college student who cannot afford CRS, so I’m trying these first!

  • Bellachique says:

Sadly they aren’t available yet where I live, but they are so popular everywhere. Thanks again for the great swatches!

  • Kelly says:

These look and sound absolutely amazing, I definitely want to try at least one of these if I get the chance.

  • toyboys says:

UK exclusive you say? Well that at least confirms that they will be released over here. I wonder when?

  • Carolyn says:

I emailed Revlon about when they are being released in the UK and they sent this message:

“Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter will be available in the UK in March 2012.”

    YAY!

  • Terri says:

Any idea of how I can get my hands on Macaroon? I am here in the US.

  • Alice says:

I’ve been absolutely OBSESSED with these and searched all over the internet for swatches. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing swatches because they’re the best pigmented swatches ever.

I usually never do this, but I think I’m going to buy the whole 20 lip butters because I’m so obsessed with them. They’re just so easy to put on the lips and the colors are all so lovely.

Btw, does anyone know how to get the shade Macaroon? I’ve been looking for that color at my local Rite Aid, but they had all shades BUT macaroon. :/

  • charlotte says:

Don’t suppose anyone knows when these will be released in UK? desperately want them!

  • Cords says:

The UK Release is St Patricks day, March 14th. Ireland Release is Mid April. I will be picking up Macaroon when it get’s released over here ;)
Americans are too used to getting everything. It’s nice to see a company do an exclusive for a country that isnt the USA for a change.

  • Alejandra says:

    they are on sale now!!!

  • vitri zada says:

Finally…I got it here in indonesia when I went to watsons today, After I searched so many times
I have tutti fruti and creamsicle… I love them both!!

  • Leena Zawawi says:

Hi Karla! I know you’ve done this a few months ago, but I’ve just gotta say, we here in Malaysia have gotten 8 out of the 20 shades, and one of them is Macaroon! We also have Peach Parfait, Brown Sugar, Lollipop, Strawberry Shortcake, Sugar Plum, Cherry Tart and Fig Jam. All beautiful. I just wish they’d have all the shades everywhere @_@

  • KarlaSugar says:

Leena, I agree completely! Where’s this global economy I keep hearing so much about?

  • Sam says:

I can always rely on you for great swatches! I’ve decided I NEED these, but am currently housebound, so I have a list of 9 must haves I will send with the shopper.
    Thank you!

  • TokyoCherry says:

I, too, thank you for as you say “being blessed to getting to swatch them all”! I was hospitalized for months and am also housebound (@sam). I finally got to the point now of wanting to ‘feel feminine pretty’ again and after binging on tasty BBW glosses, went web shopping for lipsticks. I was completely oblivious these came out! You really do have perfect swatches and the last color I can’t find due to the BOGO everywhere is Lollipop!
After sending my ‘shopper’ Peach Parfait was a let down because it is nothing like the name or spokesmodel pic. But of those i own I adore Tutti Fruitti, Raspberry Pie, Sweet Tart, Cherry Tart and once my hands are on it…Lollipop!
I’m forever a fan and am about to hit up a few more reviews/swatches I hope you have!
    <3!

  • Sam says:

If you’re fortunate enough to live in Texas, H-E-B has these for 5.47 each and they also have a $3 off coupon in store, so you can get these for $2.47 each (plus tax) rather than $6-7.

  • Breanna says:

I just bought one of these last night in Strawberry Shortcake. I’ve been looking for a lipstick like this!

Before, either I’d find the colour I wanted but it’d be matte (hate) or it’d be the texture I wanted…but not the colour. These are beautiful and feel wonderful on the lips!

  • Kat says:

Hi! I was wondering if you know of a Lipstick with the same color profile as Macaroon but less shimmer-y and without the little gold glitter flecks? I love this color but I’m not really into glitter so when I “repurchase” this color, I want a more creme or satin finish maybe? Thanks for the help
