Revlon has a new lipstick out, and it’s taking the makeup-loving world by storm. Even confirmed Chanel-acolytes and Dior-loyalists are stopping by their CVSes to check these out. I’ve been scouring the internet for swatches, trying to choose the one-or-two I would pick up in a buy-one-get-one… and by a stroke of magnificent good fortune, Revlon gave me the opportunity to swatch all of them. Nothing could have made me happier.
The Lip Butters go on with a delicious heavy-balm feeling, though I would say they’re not actively moisturizing (they don’t leave my lips less dry/more hydrated afterwards). They’re vanilla-scented, with a sheer stain of color and the soft shine of a balm. The lightest colors are more or less invisible on my lips. The most pigmented shades are still sheer and stainlike. I might liken them to Chantecaille’s Lip Chics or Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine.
Sugar Frosting is very sheer frozen pale pink with tiny, invisible shimmers. Creme Brulee is sheer warm tan. Creamsicle is sheer, very pale warm pink. Peach Parfait (the only real name mismatch for me) is a rose-guava-pink with gold sparkles. I LOVE Tutti Frutti. Sheer orange lipsticks have the most delightful way of melding with one’s natural lip color to create a perfectly gorgeous, very warm pink — my favorite version of “my lips but better.” Lovers of Guerlain’s Serie Noir Rouge G 45 Orange Euphorique and NARS Wonder lipgloss, you need this lipstick.
Candy Apple is another favorite, a bright warm red. Cherry Tart is a cooler cherry pink-red with very subtle sparkles. Red Velvet is deeper violet-red (a very good interpretation of Red Velvet cake, actually). Fig Jam is fig brown, a reddish caramel. Brown Sugar is a softer, warm, nude pinked-brown with shimmer.
Cupcake is sheer, Nicki-Minaj blue-pink. Gumdrop is pale sheer lilac. Cotton Candy is pale sheer cool pink that’s just a touch warmer — it has gold shimmers. Strawberry Shortcake is a brighter, pinker, more intense cool bubblegum pink (not so blue, not so purple as the three preceeding shades). Macaroon is actually a UK-exclusive, a muted strawberry jam. I’m SO grateful that Revlon gave me the opportunity to swatch it. It gives my lips a ruddy color. Sweet Tart is bright cool pink (the most truly pink of all the Lip Butters). Lollipop is violet-pink with blue sparkles. Raspberry Pie is fuchsia-rose. Berry Smoothie is sheer, cool, violet-rose-pink with pink sparkles. Sugar Plum is a slightly more browned, more muted, more natural mauve pink. Pink Truffle is browner still, a slightly mauvey, brownie pink.
Revlon Lip Butters are about $7.50 each. Have you tried them? Are you in love?
