Laura Mercier has created something a little unusual, highly covetable, and limited edition: a travel “portfolio.” This sturdy zip case is meant to protect your [makeup] valuables from the slings and arrows of outrageous baggage handling. It’s just flexible enough to protect itself (and pack neatly into your suitcase); rigid enough to protect what’s inside. It looks like a posh iPad case. I measured its external dimensions at 12″ x 9.5″ x 2.75″.
Inside, it has four removable mesh zipper pouches, which attach to the side walls magnetically (so chic! No fiddling with snaps!). You could take any one of them out and drop it into your purse. The center “page” is a zip-out removable brush holder (with protective flap).
The first two zippered pouches are of equal size; in the back you get a pencil case (love!) and a big pouch. We filled the case to give you a sense of scale. If you buy a Portfolio, it comes with the pouches (naturally), the brush holder page, an empty three-pan palette, and an empty six-pan palette — but none of the brushes or other items.
The planner is $98. It’s supposed to go on sale March 1, but Neiman Marcus counters have special permission to sell them early for beauty week.
