Make Up For Ever just added another eyeshadow formula to their lineup — and another product to their “Aqua” category. For those of you who love the “waterproof, creaseproof” idea of the Aqua Creams, but hate working with pots, meet the Aqua Shadows, chubby pencils in 5 matte and 7 pearl shades (and I’ve heard another 12 colors are on the horizon).
I LOVE the Aqua Creams. For a summer wedding in hot, humid Texas, I’ll use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply shade 2 as a light wash all over the lid. With eyeliner and mascara, I have a quick, easy look that won’t move or smudge or crease. Would the pencils be easier?
I tried these on my eyelids (just a quick in-store test). First I tried coloring directly on my lid, but it was difficult to blend the intense (and quick-drying) pigment — these pencils do “set.” I had better results taking brush to pencil, then applying to lid… which is not that different from using a pot. But I guess the Aqua Shadows offer matte options that the Aqua Creams don’t.
One of the sales associates also suggested coloring on the back of one’s hand (as a palette), then using a brush. And I guess you could color on your lid if you were using these as an eyeshadow base.
0E is matte black. 2E is matte, dark, cool, chestnut brown. 4E is matte, cool, industrial grey. 6E is matte peacock blue. 8E is matte, dark, teal blue-green. 20E is a shimmery pink-purple-brown. 22E is a shimmery brass brown. 24E is shimmery flower pink. 26E is shimmery apricot. 28E is shimmery beige. 30E is shimmery beige pink. 32E is pearly, shimmery warm white.
These are available at Sephora (and the Make Up For Ever boutique in Dallas) for $20 each.
