About a month ago, Tom Ford introduced a new line of sheer lipsticks: Lip Shines. The launch came as a bit of a surprise, since, until now, we’ve known him for his intense, opaque pigment (which gives the lipsticks pretty long wear).
The shades do have numbers (1–10), and I swatched them in numerical order.
Chastity is pastel pink, a pale, cool, whitened blue-pink with a few tiny gold sparkles. Smitten is a warm, sheer pink with many gold (and a few purple) sparkles. Quiver is a muted, cool, rose-pink with tiny gold sparkles. Ravenous is a more intense cool rose-pink (and in the context of these relatively muted/sheer shades, I might even call it “hot pink”). Ravenous has tiny blue sparkles. Bare is a nude beige with gold sparkles. Abandon is a sheer peach-tea, an apricot tan. Nubile is terracotta rose. Frolic is a sheer, warm pink with tiny gold sparkles. Insidious is a more intense, warmer pink with tiny silver sparkles. (Smitten, Frolic, and Insidious seem like sisters.) Willful is sheer maraschino cherry.
They’re all sheer. Willful appealed to me the most, so that’s the one I tried on. It felt nicely moisturizing (in the way of Chantecaille Lip Chics) and gave me a sheer, somewhat glossy, jelly finish, with a color that was a little stronger than “popsicle lips.” It was not particularly long-wearing.
Like Tom Ford’s “regular” lipsticks, Lip Shines are $48 each.
You can purchase Lip Shines at Neiman Marcus (free shipping at any price with code MARCHFS) and Saks (free shipping on $150 with code SFAMAR). Nordstrom does offer a limited selection of Tom Ford cosmetics, but the website doesn’t have the Shine lipsticks at this time.
