Make Up For Ever Uplight Highlighters

Make Up For Ever, MUFE, UplightMake Up For Ever recently launched a new series of oil-free, lightweight, liqui-gel highlighters in small, pump-top tubes (the packaging is very similar to MUFE’s HD blush). They’re $29 each, and there are 8 shades for sale on (or at the Make Up For Ever boutique, if you live in NYC). Unfortunately, my brick-and-mortar Sephora only offers 4 shades for swatching.

My sales associates are really excited about these. They feel that Uplight is lighter and smoother than other brands’ highlighters, that they really blend into the skin without looking chunky or paste-like, and without feeling gritty or grainy.

I have only tried these on my arm (not on my face), but I thought they felt like a fast-collapsing mousse. They’re VERY blendable, and I wondered if my heavier swatches (to better show color) might do a disservice by not accurately portraying their lovely texture and finish.

The Uplight Luminizing Face Gels come in three finishes. Shades 11 and 12 are “dewy,” and they are really beautifully glowy. These two are definitely the subtlest options. Shades 21, 22, and 23 are “pearly” and they are finely shimmery (with tiny, subtle sparkles that shouldn’t stand out in a normal face application). Shades 31, 32, and 33 are “sparkling,” and they have larger, more noticeable glitter.

12 is a pale, glowy lion-gold. 22 is silver beige pink shimmer. 23 is bronzy shimmer. 32 is pink shimmer with larger pieces of gold glitter.

One of the sales associates had bought 31, and she described it as sheer blue-pink with pink glitter.

Sephora’s descriptions are:

11 – dewy pink beige
12 – dewy golden beige
21 – pearly white
22 – pearly pink flesh
23 – pearly golden flesh
31 – sparkling blue pink
32 – sparkling golden pink
33 – sparkling golden copper

Since most of you will probably have to shop from Sephora, you might as well get some freebies with your order (most of these are valid with $25 purchase):

  • i have this in #12. while i love the colour i really don’t ike the pump which can’t control the amount dispensed properly. i always get more than what i need which is kind of a waste. other than that, this is a GREAT product and thet colour #12 is excellent for my asian yellow skin. it brightens up my dull ashy face. love it!

what do we do without your ARM! LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Karla. This review is invaluable. I had looked at a tester of one of the glitter ones last week at Sephora, took one tiny pump-swipe on my finger and thought “oh no! GLITTER!”

Thanks to your review I now know there are different finishes. I’m going to go back later this weekend to check the others.

Have you used the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors? If you’ve tried them, I’d love to know how they compare.

  • KarlaSugar says:

Sorry to say I’ve never tried Becca’s highlighters.
