Le Metier de Beaute Fall 2011: Silk Road

Le Metier fans, rejoice! The fall collection is on counters everywhere, in all its warm, sumptuous, autumnal glory.

First, there are TWO fall Kaleidoscopes. Silk Road is an eyeshadow palette ($95). According to Neiman Marcus’s website, the shades do have individual names — though they’re not listed on the bottom of the kaleidoscope. I’ll use these individual shade names in case these colors reappear later (though every piece of this collection is limited edition).

Tapestry is shimmery sugarplum with multicolored sparkles. Damask is a shimmery copper-gold. Ikat is a more muted, deeper, slightly more red purple satin. Brocade is a dark, cool matte brown with copper multicolored sparkles.

In couches de couleur style, I also layered the first three shadows on top of one another (traditionally, the fourth shade is a liner). You could also make the mix more golden with more Damask.

I might be a tiny bit disappointed by this kaleidoscope, just because I’ve gotten used to questioning the four shades in the compact, and then being surprised by the blended shade they create. You know what color Silk Road will be just looking at the pans: bronzey purple.

The last few collections have featured eyeshadow kaleidoscopes only, but LMdB also makes lip and face versions. Silk Road introduces a new, limited edition lip kaleidoscope: Empress (also $95). Like the eye palette, these lip shades also apparently have individual names.

Imperial Silk is a sheer, pale, warm pink with subtle, small pink sparkles. By itself, it would be a VERY subtle lipcolor. Plum Satin is a crimson/red burgundy the color of plush velvet theatre seats. Silk Road is mauve-pink with green and pink pearlized sparkle. Empress is a sheer grape with gold, multicolored iridescent sparkle.

I mixed all four of these for the couches de couleur experience — and I probably should have gone a little lighter on the fourth shade (for a less plummy final result). My mix was a sparkling pink-violet concoction, but of course you could use any number of these (two, three, four) in any combination.

There are also four limited edition four nail polishes ($10 each). Silk Road is a bronze frost. Anatolia is a burgundy rose with gold shimmer. Dynasty is a crimson red with violet undertones and pink shimmer. Urban Dweller is a dark, woodsy, earthy brown with gold-orange-green multicolored sparkles.

  • I’m really loving the Silk Road Eye Kaleidoscope! I’ve been able to achieve many different looks using it. I am so in LOVE with the look of those nail polishes and lip kaleidoscope. I may just have to complete the Fall collection. ;-)

I am a bit underwhelmed by Silk Road Eye Kaleidoscope myself (I own five of previously released and I LOVE every single one of them). However, I really want Empress Kaleidoscope. It is such a sad twist of fate that I am allergic to LMDB’s lip products – I think it might be the lanolin oil they contain. :( I love the colors of Empress so much that I am tempted to deal with a couple weeks of irritated, peeling hot mess of lips afterwards.
