When you think of Cle de Peau, two products probably spring to mind: their concealer and their Extra Silky Lipsticks. Well — hang on to your hat — Cle de Peau is doing away with their Extra Silky Lipsticks.
That’s probably an overly dramatic way of putting it. They’re changing the formula, tweaking the packaging, changing the colors, and giving the lipstick a new name. But the essence of Extra Silky will remain. As national artist Matthew Arbogast put it, “this is an upgrade.”
The Extra Silky Lipsticks were known for their “slip,” the almost-liquid, sheer, glossy, lightweight, Moroccan-oil formula. The Enriched Lip Luminizers still have that lush feel, but they’re not QUITE as slippy. It’s a small difference, but I think it gives the product better wear time.
I also think the Enriched Lip Luminizers come in a more logical range of colors — and there are more shades with more pigment.
The new lipsticks come in new, refillable packaging. The outer case is $25, and each shade is sold as a $35 click-in “refill” (Cle de Peau’s blushes and eyeshadow quads are already sold in this compact + refill way). The refill also has a little “window” so you can see when you’re running out of product.
My only complaint is that the shade number of the refill is printed on the part of the tube that’s covered by the outer case. And there’s no way to see the shade when the case is closed (in case you own more than one).
201 is a sheer, greyed beige-pink with some silver and a few gold sparkles (I’ll mention which shades have sparkles, though I don’t think you’ll see them on the lip — they’re too subtle). 202 is a sheer rosewood, a warm, lovely, earthy, browned, natural rose with a few gold sparkles. 203 is a warm, barely rosy brown. 204 is a sheer peach with a few silver and pink sparkles. 205 is a slightly deeper than 202, and a bit more berry. 206 is bright, warm, sheer (coral) pink. 207 is sensational, and I want everyone to have one. It’s a bright, pigmented, strawberry-red with gold sparkles — a total win. 208 is a cool pink with silver sparkles. 209 is a deeper, warmer, red-violet, strawberry-candy-pink with silver sparkles. 210 is a sheer, warm petal-pink.
211 is warm red. 212 is a sheer purple-berry-wine. 213 is a tiny bit more berry than 211 (the raspberry to 211′s red). 214 is a warm, medium rose-pink. 215 is a sheer lilac-orchid (pink-purple). 216 is rose-mauve. 217 is rum-raisin red-brown. 218 is tawny honey brown (almost amber) with gold and pink sparkles. 219 is a sheer, barely red-/purpled- (but comparatively cooler) brown with gold and pink sparkles. 220 is a honeyed, golden yellow (and a great shade to put on top of another lipstick, to modify the color).
My favorites? 202, 207, and 211 for sure. Maybe 206 as well, though it will be more sheer.
The Extra Silky Lipsticks are still on-counter (and online) for now, and I expect they’ll be there until they sell through their current stock. (The counter at Neiman Marcus Northpark has a full complement of shades, so if there’s something you can’t find, give them a call at 214-363-8311).
