For the past few years, Sally Hansen has made fabulous custom colors for shows at New York fashion week, then — six months later, when the appropriate season rolls around — sold those collections to the public. (I haven’t swatched all of them, but as an example, here’s Tracy Reese F/W 2010.) The funny thing is, there’s no indication on the bottle or on the display that you’re buying a “special” polish, so unless you’re in the know, the fact that it’s a collaboration might escape you.
I picked up Barely Blue Bell a few weeks ago because it was pretty… then subsequently learned it was part of a trio for Prabal Gurung. If those are rainbow flakies, I’ll be going back for Loves-Me-Not.

Barely Blue Bell is a little more saturated, a little less faded/antiqued — and a little more blue than NCLA Santa Monica Shore Thing (the color that touched off my obsession with celadon). It’s a swimming-pool color.

This photo is overexposed, but I think Barely Blue Bell goes with my On the Beach pedicure very nicely.

I found Loves Me Not at my local drugstore. It’s not flakies. It’s just glitter. And the holographic / colorchanging aspect is extremely faint. Redefines ‘subtle’, even. If you love dark purple nail polishes that can give you full coverage in one coat, then this one’s fairly nice. But…it’s not flakies.
OmG your toes are gorgeous. I love your blog too. I come here weekly
