Stars Makeup Haven Eyeshadow, Part 6

Last time we looked at Stars Makeup Haven eyeshadows, I asked you what colors you wished for more of. “Neutrals!” you said. “And purples.” Well, SMH was listening, and — never a brand to do things by half measures — recently released 32 new shades (bringing their library up to 82).

I was discussing SMH shadows with Aradiapdx (in preparation for her recent tutorial), and I loved what she had to say about them:

They really are like using pressed pigments in many ways (good and bad… mostly good, but I love pigments and am accustomed to them). First, they are super pigmented (really awesome). I went to Sephora wearing them, and multiple salesgirls asked me what brand the shadows were — they marveled at how intense the color was. (The Dior sales associate at Nordstrom thought it might be one of the Chanel quads.) I applied these completely dry: no mixing mediums/intensifiers, no moisture whatsoever on the brushes. When I told them how cheap they are, they were shocked (and asked for the website). Like dealing with pigments, however, there is a good bit of fallout. Be sure to keep a big fluffy brush handy so you can brush fallout off carefully as it happens (especially with the darker colors). Obviously, if you apply the shadows wet, there will be less fallout and even more color intensity. Overall, I am really impressed with these — they really work better than some of the expensive shadows I have. All in all, a fun and cheap addition to my collection.

Stars Makeup Haven shadows come in 1″ pans (the same size as MAC’s), and they’re $4.95 each. You can buy them at either StarsMakeupHaven.com or AllCosmeticsWholesale.com — or you could win some in today’s giveaway.
Stars Makeup Haven, SMH, swatches, Carnal Knowledge, Sin-sational, Breathless, Bamboo, Sex Pot, Ciao Bella!, Icon, Charade, Shameless, Couture, Two to TangoCarnal Knowledge is a shimmery sand. Sin-sational is a shimmery pale pink. The aptly named Breathless is a shimmery muted purple. Bamboo is a fabulous matte greyed-purple. Sex Pot is like a matte version of Breathless. Ciao Bella! is a very slightly shimmery stone. Icon is a matte yellow brown. Charade is a matte cool brown (with maybe a hint of purple in it? Are my eyes playing tricks on me?). Shameless is a matte red brown, slightly warmer than Charade. Couture is a shimmery, frosty yellow brown. Two to Tango is a bright frosty ginger copper.

Now, about today’s giveaway. As you know, I’m behind the times. Especially on YouTube — but I want to catch up! So please, leave me a comment and tell me who I should be watching on YouTube. (You can also tell me what you think of these shadows.)

The free contest widget I’ve been using limits the number of contests I can have in a month, so here’s how we’re going to do this one. There will be one-day contests like these today, tomorrow, and Thursday. You can enter all three. On Friday I’ll announce the winners in a post, and then they will be responsible for emailing me over the weekend (or I’ll pick new winners on Monday). That way nobody’s email address is exposed to spambots. Cool? Cool.

Today’s prize shadows are Sin-sational and Breathless. The prize shadows have been swatched (sorry). The contest is open to anyone, anywhere in the world, and it ends tonight at midnight, CST. Good luck!

P.S. Look for bonus giveaways on Facebook and Twitter! Just sayin’.

    >Msfililocalola on youtube cracks me up!!! Within 10 seconds of watching one of her videos I was already subscribed and going through all her uploads. I also love kandeejohnson. Her tutorials are awesome and she has such a happy and outgoing personality. JuicyTuesday is another guru I like to watch. She is gorgeous and funny and has a cute canadian accent that reminds me of my late uncle…

As for the shadows, Sin-sational, breathless, bamboo and sex pot are my faves. They seem like a great alternative to MAC shadows (unless you get the pro discount…lol). I wonder if they work in the magnetic coastal scents palettes? =)

  • Andromeda says:

    >On youtube I like Temptalia and EnKoreMakeup.

Those eyeshadows are really beautiful. I wonder how Stars Makeup Haven can sell such high quality eyeshadows at such a low price. The best thing is that they ship internationally. :)

    >I really love the Pixiwoo sisters, they cut to the chase, aren't fake, and are just two gorgeous girls. I also love Pixi2woo, which is kind of a spinoff of one of the pixiwoo sisters' friend, who's also a makeup artist. She is also very gorgeous and has lovely tutorials.

Xteener is great for teaching beginners how to apply makeup, and also does more complex looks as well. She also seems really sweet and is informative on many budget makeup products.

  • imamakeupaddict says:

    >As a lot of others have said, Pixiwoo is my favorite YouTuber duo to watch! They break things down quite simply and are a pleasure to listen to. I'm guessing it's their British accents that do it, but for some reason listening to them always relaxes me. =P

As for these shadows, I CAN'T WAIT to create another 15-pan palette. I got one when you first swatched SMH shadows, and I absolutely love it!

  • runnergirl says:

    >I like MissChievious. I also like dabbler.ca because they have a lot of Beau Nelson (Beaute) tuts!

  • Samantha says:

    >I enjoy watching makeupbytiffanyd and kandeejohnson. Their videos are really informative, and they know their stuff :)

  • Tiffany says:

    >I unfortunately haven't been actively looking for new stuff on YouTube. I do like pixiwoo and MissChievous, who have already been mentioned above.

I kind of want the whole left half of those swatches. I was immediately drawn to Ciao Bella! of all colors…

  • 7_victoria says:

    >Like many of the commenters before me, my favorite YouTube gurus are misschievous and pixiwoo.

hmmm realllyyy lemming these SMH e/s :) nothing creates lemmings like karla's arm.

  • Halifax says:

    >My fav are xteeener and Michelle Phan :-)

  • Sarah says:

    >I love watching Lauren Luke (panacea81)– great looks and I adore her accent. And glowpinkstah does HILARIOUS tutorials. I laughed so hard I cried.

Also, these eyeshadows are killing me. I think I need to have all of them. It's excessive.

  • priya says:

    >i like moodev and pixiwoo!

  • Prasanthi says:

    >I know I missed the contest, but I wanted to mention a few youtubers I love because I don't think anybody else has yet…

1.) XINAR0X (The 0 is a zero)…she hasn't done a video in a while but the ones she has are GORGEOUS
2.) iCRAiZ – does a lot of tutorials with drugstore products and gets beautiful results
3.) TheMakeupRepublic – doesn't have many videos but the quality and tutorials are very clear and easy to follow!

Hope you get a chance to check them out :)

  • Erica says:

    >Pixiwoo! Sam and Nic are sisters. They are both makeup artists, and they are amazing.

  • kkool says:

    >I think you should watch either,
    allthatglitters21
    juicystar07
    xsparkage
they are all different ages, therefore you get the points of veiw from all girls that wear makeup! they are all educational, and very fun to watch! my favorite colors, are probably sex pot, dominatrix, warm & fuzzy, and Wine Not. They are all so gorgeous, and so is this pallette!
